hey all, as per title i've just converted my soarer to manual and I love it. Only problem is now with the 5 speed, my car tends to run out of puff at 130km/h! I do a fair bit of highway driving and when i'm in 5th at 110 the car is sitting at 3-3500rpm and as you can imagine its chewing through my petrol and not to mention loud...
I assume with the new gearbox that it is my diff that will need to be changed to correct my ratios and i'm in the market for an LSD, unfortunately i know nothing about them. Does anyone know what i should be looking for in a differential so i can somewhat restore my highway cruising abilities?

its a catch 22. if you change the diff gearset for the high way gears then your initial takeoff will suffer.im not sure what the gear ratios are in the w58 but i have an r154 and i run the standard 4.08 tt gears set in the diff. at 80kmph im doing 2000 rmp in 5th gear.

um i dont understand how this would be a problem? manual sc300's which have a w58 have a diff ratio of 4.08, which is the same as stock tt soarer..so according to my calculations there shouldnt be any difference at all?

the w58 is out of a jza80 supra, and it sits at 2,000rpm in 5th at 60, something is out of whack. The car was bog stock when i bought it, so as far as i know it should be an a02a open diff, which is what it says on the plate under the bonnet.

im confused, do i need the diff out of a v8 then? i figured if i got the diff from a manual jza80 supra that it would match the gearbox and fix the ratios, but im probably wrong.

Nathan, yes the box is a W58
Adrian, no i haven't tested it against a gps, but when im doing 60 its no faster or slower than the cars around me.
It feels like i need a 6th gear, cruising is horribly loud with my exhaust and it just chews petrol, like i said sitting at 3,000+rpm at 110km/h. With the auto and the same exhaust cruising was nice.

If your diff is the same, there shouldn't be that much difference!
I put a W58 in my UZZ32 with standard diff and yes 1st is short but I think I would hit the limiter in 5th well over 230km/hr. I could work it out but the difference between 3.9 and 4.11 is really 2/5th of f all overall.

costa cars all have after market diff gears. i know he had some 4.3 gear set as i was trying to get info about were i could get a set of 4.3's from. i would email him and ask him what ratio diff he was running.

actually, it shouldnt matter either way what diff you are running as unless the box has after market ratios it still shouldnt be out that much. email or ring costa and ask, im sure he will be able to explain whats going on
