| G'day all, Well I just about have all the parts required to completely rebuild the suspension in my 32. I have 4 accumulators from Peter Taplin as well as a complete set of bushes and just about all the other bits and pieces from Toyota. I'm just waiting for 3 dust covers and the valve body overhaul kit from Japan. So I started pulling everything apart starting with the front left and soon realised that the original LCA bushes had been replaced with Nolothane ones. I had noticed this before but the penny never dropped! I then attempted to split the strut halves whilst still bolted in but had no luck. The bugger is tight!! So removing the upper and lower control arms it became obvious that the uppers were really stuffed, and the LCA/strut bush was cactus also (this one I don't have).
So I decided to remove the strut completely so I can put it in a vice and have a good go at it.
There appears to be some light scoring on the chrome too. Once I get it all apart, I'll see how bad it is and make a decision whether or not I'll try and buff it out or send it to be overhauled.
Closer inspection I found that the upper strut support was cracked as in the above pic. So I'll have to see what these are worth now too!

| The other thing that was concerning was the colour of the suspension fluid that I drained out. It was exactly the same colour as green coolant!!
I know it takes on a green colour but that seems a bit excessive? Anyway, I'll keep you updated with the progress. Cheers. |

| Well I priced up the front strut supports and they are $256 each!! Priced up the rears while I was there and they are $900 odd!!! And I thought the fronts were expensive! Well they might have to wait till next year. They shouldn't be too hard to change out on a later date. |

| When was the last time or have you previously changed the fluid? The shafts are often scored, having them ground down and rechromed isn't cheap roughly 1k for all 4. |

Yeah, tell me about it. Lucky I have 2 months off starting next week! I'll try to be as descriptive as I can without going overboard with the pics.

I flushed it out about 3 years ago I think, but I have my concerns about what a mobile mechanic put in it when my gran thought she was doing me a favour getting it serviced! Same joker that did the timing belt and left it out a tooth! It seems the going rate is $180 per strut which isn't that bad considering how well they come up. This is a pic of Daryl's.
Cheers. |

| G'day Bloke, Got your email today, haven't had time to reply. I got the all my bushes from Peter Taplin, with the exception of the front LCA/Strut bush which wont be needed for you car. I'll reply to your email tonight. Cheers, Mate. |

| G'day all, Well I hope everyone had a good Christmas and New Year. So I have a month of leave left to try and get this project finished, I've been busy with other things up till now. So I have everything I need less the valve body kit and I just need to send the struts to be chromed.

Hey Austen, yes I do actually. What might be the cost for a hard chrome refurb?

Tell me about it! The cost to fix the timing belt was a pain but it was a good excuse to fit heads and cams!!! Well I'll try and get some more posts/pics up over the next few weeks. Cheers. |

| Okay so I have done a bit more over the weekend. I split the struts and the old bump stops had turned to pretty much mud from the years of suspension fluid leaking over them.
I removed the nolothane LCA bushes which wasn't a drama, however there was significant oxidisation on the LCA which would not clean up with the wire brush on the die grinder. The Strut Bush had to be cut out which took a bit longer. I didn't take a before photo of the inside, (I'll take a photo of the other side), but you can see, when they were fitted that the rust staining is a good indicator of what to expect.
So I used the sand blaster which brought them up nicely, however it was a rush to get them painted ASAP with the humidity up here at the moment! This is a shot just prior to painting. The lighting wasn't great though.
I also blasted the new accumulators from Peter Taplin. (This is a rear one).
So these parts are now painted (I'll get some pics up tomorrow when the light is better), I went for a charcoal colour rather than just black, as I figured I went to the effort to clean them up, might as well paint them something other than black. Well I'll give a bit more of an update with some more pics sometime tomorrow. Cheers. |

Ha! How did you know I wanted neons?!?! I can't wait, it's gonna be fully sick! How much better do you think my car will go after those performance mods? (By the way, the paint I'm using is lighter than factory too!). But seriously, it shouldn't be too noticeable I hope. Otherwise everything else will look sh1t. |

| Okay, so here are some pics of removing the LCA/Strut bush. This is a UZZ32 specific bush. The removal is the same method as removing the other factory bushes. Basically, I drilled multiple holes through the rubber and I then used a sharpened flat head screw driver to cut through the remaining parts holding the centre in place.
Once the centre is removed, you can get in and cut a line through the outer casing. I used a die grinder but a hacksaw would work also. Once this is done, a hammer and chisel to knock the casing away from the LCA and out it comes.
One bush took me about 10 minutes to remove. |

I haven't as yet, but at this stage I'll probably use Aerochrome and should be about $180.

Yes, this method can be used for removing the factory bushes from the LCA's. The upper bushes will just press out. |

| Well, if you have a vice, drill and bits, a die grinder or hacksaw (a hacksaw will take longer or even putting the tungsten carbide tip in the drill would probably work), a hammer, chisel and a bit of aggression, you should be able to remove them yourself. You can usually press the new bushes back in with a vice, otherwise you will need access to a press. |

| Are you crazy Andy???!!!! Why would you want coilovers when it has one of the best suspension set ups you could find on a road car???? If it has suspension problems either get it fixed or sell the car to someone who will fix it! Butchering a UZZ32 is criminal |
