Hi Guys, I was driving home today when I stopped at a caltex and the car was fine, jumped back in the car and as I'm leaving the car park and as I turn right I hear a loud clunk(almost backfire) sound from the back and my car struggling to turn. I drove on straight and all was fine and assumed I had ran something like a tin or piece of wood over, next corner to the left the same again almost as if when I go to accelerate through the corner my car clunks, splutters and near enough stops. Get to the next corner and I don't accelerate just slowly go through the corner until I am straight again the gently accelerate and all is well. It was dark and I couldn't see any leaks or deformities at the time but when I approached the roundabout near my house I nearly crashed it when I had to accelerate up the hill as I took the left.

Has anyone got a clue? My brake pads have been very noisy and worn of late and were due a change this week if that gives any more clues.

Cheers in advance

Yep, sounds like the diff is gone.
If you can jack it up and drop out the diff oil you will probably see lots of metal chunks stuck to the magnetic drain plug.
Recommend not to drive it at all like that, there's a chance it can seize while moving.
Fairly easy job to change.

I just called Pedders down the road to book it in as I don't have a hoist. Would love to do it myself but don't trust myself to do a proper job. Any idea if the diff from a JZZ30 would fit? If so would there be any differences in things such as torque and acceleration?

a diff from JZZ30 will fit, but the ratio is different. stock v8 diff is 3.9, jzz30 diff is 4.1. it will give you better acceleration and a lower top speed. the speedo will be out too

reverse onto a set of car ramps and it is easy to change using a trolly jack.
