Never had the issue before though Peter in almost 6 years .

Although i just had new tyres fitted .

I will sound like a newbie here and ask what spigot rings are ?

I have some stock 16's with my Street Radials on them . Might be worth throwing them on and taking it for a spin to find out i guess .

The little spacer rings used when the wheel centre hole is bigger than the axle stub.

OEM wheels won't need them, but a lot of after market wheels do as they have a hole size of eg 75mm while the axle stub is 60mm (from memory).

Daniel, they allow aftermarket wheel suppliers to make a single size hub/spigot wheel, and then place rings in them to suit the individual make of car.

The load of the vehicle is supposed to be taken by the spigot, with the wheel nuts there to keep the wheel on the hub. Friction between the wheel and hub applies your rotational force.

All to often tyre shops will sell you any wheel that fits your stud pattern, do it up TAF with a rattle gun and send you on your way. Very few understand spigots and spigot rings (being they are often staffed by kids) enough to even mention it to you when you are looking at wheels.

Bumping old thread ....

Not rotors or pads . Seems passenger rear wheel bearing has had enough .

How hard is it to swap the complete hub with a 2nd hand one ? I'm always keen to do most things , but suspension I normally leave for the shops . But $$ are tight

Ball joints will usually come apart with two hammers.

Should be just bolting and adjusting.

The saga continues .

So I removed the wheel today upon advice to check if the main nut on the driveshaft was loose ... Yep , after removing the split pin and cover , I undone the nut with my fingers !

We tightened it up and test drive showed the laterally movement gone :-) its a little noisy but the rotor is quite marked from rubbing , so now I will replace that and fit new pads .

I am guessing the hub and bearing may have suffered premature wear due to the unknownly loose nut , and will look into replacement in the future .

Lucky it still retained the factory split pin and locking cover ! I wonder if they come loose over time and never get checked thus destroying bearings after a while ?

Ok, How often do these bearings need checking for tightness and what is the life expectancy of wheel bearings on the Soarers?

I would never have thought to check until it was shafged and needed replacing . My mechanic mate recommended every 2 years or every rotor or pad change never hurts .

Yeah , originally checked that , it wasn't " loose " ( I couldn't budge with a shifter as my sockets weren't that big back then , should of. Borrowed one :-( I know ) .

Update 7,5464....

So removed all the rotors and pads and replaced them ! Turns out someone used the WRONG REAR PADS !!!! Looks like someone fitted db1234 instead of db1396 ...

So the passenger rear pad was cockeyed locked the caliper from working and causing friction on the rotor constantly . I am 99% certain this has led to the bearing failure . I will be replacing the rear hub soon after I collect one from Daniel Savage .

Explains why I've never changed the rear pads in 6 1/2 yrs ! Although I never would have thought to remove them and check as they always had plenty of meat on them .

Anyway , thanks so far for the help . The only noise I have now is a bad squeak from the bearing , that will get sorted ASAP :-)

Should stop better too once all sorted ! Basically ive only ever had front brakes for some time I'm guessing .

Update !

All sorted , thanks to Daniel Savage for the parts .

I got the complete hub with driveshaft . Luckily cause there was a lot of wear on my driveshaft and the abs ribs were shagged !

Quiet as a church mouse now and straight as :-)

Bugger of a job on the ground though !

Just over 4 mm of movement in the bearing ... It was heading for a tree very soon I think ! Not to mention the damaged driveshaft as well .

Big thanks to everyone for their help along the way . Now I have zero noises , straight driving , and evidentially sorted a rear brake issue I never knew I had :-)

Not wrong Ben :-) can't believe how fast it stops with all 4 brakes working now ! Let alone how quiet it is ( apart from the exhaust of course , lol )
