Dave, I replaced the height switch recently but with one from the wreckers so it is 21 years old as well! What should happen when I disconnect it?

Do the height computers play up after a while? Do I replace this one or is it better to have it repaired?

Lastly as the airbags have stayed fully pumped even after many weeks of non-use is that a good indication of their condition/performance once i get this height control issue sorted out, thanks

Greg question 1 not sure ,but may give us a lead??

2 yes they do play up ,plenty around s/h i would think

3 Yes , they are sound units.

Disconnect a rear rod first, then switch.

Dave, so to disconnect a rear sensor.......I'll just jack car up and remove wheel. Is it then ok to test suspension while still on jack?

when you replaced the switch, did you get the connectors seated correctly?

the switch is easy to check with a multi meter.

I got a bit scientific this morning and measured floor to top of wheel arch......the height switch is working but difference between high and normal is only 15mm, if this about right? The pump only cuts in for a few seconds and is super quiet, I was expecting it to be 50mm or more

Visually the car looks very high, here are some pics I posted when I joined here to give you an idea
http://soarercentral.com/sc-forum/messages/45853/331340.html?1294968266

So now I'm assuming it will be a dodgy height computer.......or could it be something else?

height in those pics in the link above is pretty close to normal, they do sit high. difference between high and low is not great, maybe 20mm.

I think maybe you do not have a fault, and if you want it lower adjust the links.

Greg ,i agree with Tom ,it looks a bit high but not what i was thinking ! follow the link (just do one front wheel to find out if it works) as you can adjust it with out removing the wheel or jacking,
