Hi folks
I have a '91 UZZ31 and would like to get the Air Suspension replaced with coilovers (various reasons - but mainly because I don't like the idea of driving on the highway with 21 year old air suspension under me...).
I've figured out a few things:
1) JustJap stock a couple of different sets that would suit. BR Type RS Series seems like a quality set 2) Requesting a different spring rate plus matched shock should be no problem 3) I don't want a spine shattering ride 4) I'm intending to drive at stock suspension height
What I need some help with is understanding how that maps across to the Air suspension equipped models... What I'm after at the end is a level of stiffness comparable to the 'Hard' setting on mine - perhaps even a touch softer than that.
If 6/3 might be equivalent to 'Normal' on an air suspended 31, what would be 'Hard'? Is that comparison even valid?
I haven't driven another soarer, so your feedback would be much appreciated...

I'm pretty sure that any coilover you use will be stiffer then the airbags. One car I've got buddy club coils and even on the softest setting they are more firm then the airbags. Depends what you like. I replaced the front airbags in my car and now should be good for another 20 years.

Scott - I'm fairly sure both front struts have started to go (very slow leaks when it's very cold), and the right rear one has started weeping. I figure, I'm up for $2.5k delivered from the UK if I want to stick with air.

I have 12kg front and 6kg rear there soft. Not as much as airbags ride wise though. If I have less then a 1iinch gap between gaurd and wheel they scrub going over bouncy small hills lol

do not put coilovers on, ride quality will be bad.
Have to disagree with you on that point Boris, depends entirely on spring rates, mine is low with 9kg fronts and 6kg rears and rides suprisingly good.
To be honest, I probably went a little soft on the spring rates, but I have my reasons, to me ideally something around 11 front and and maybe an 8 or 9 for the rear would be pretty good.
