Has anyone else noticed a trend by car enthusiasts to move away from larger rims, and back towards smaller rims, larger profile tyres?

It's an impression I have that is occasionally reinforced by what I see turning up for sale, but it could also just be the economy forcing people to turn their wheels back into cash.

I wouldnt run bigger than 18 inch rims due to road conditions in Sydney being poor to run any bigger rims with smaller profiles . Too uncomfortable .

In fact am running 275/40/18 on the backs now . Rides so much smoother than 265/35 but they aren't as grippy .

I think it comes down to quality of tyres too ! Not much decent stuff for 19,20 and limited sizes compared to 17,18 inch tyres .

Thus making them cheaper to replace with good rubber as well as good comfy ride quality .

My guess anyways

I think you should make period appropriate choices with regard to wheel/tire ratios. Soarers came out when 16 inch wheels were something a bit special. They look silly running around on 20's.

Also more reasonable side profiles cost less. I was quoted $245 per tire for pilot sport 3's. I know these become unaffordable in lower profiles and I want good tires.

I've recently replaced michelin pilot sport with kuhmo ?? ku19 maybe.
one rear Michelin was over $500. All 4 kuhmos for $620 at tympe tyres.
Personaly the Kuhmos are better, regardless of price.
I'm shocked.

I've heard good things about kuhmo. $600 a set is same as cheap crap tyres. Might give them a go.

Can't go wrong with a Set of Kumho KU31's. Great tyres.

Toyo Proxes 4 are great too, similar price range.
