Hi, I noticed on a long trip in the weekend that my car was vibrating a fair amount (especially over 100km), so when i returned home i took it to the tyre shop and sure enough 3/4 of the wheels are slightly buckled. What kind of damage can i do driving like this? I have a set of factory wheels which i can put back on, but just curious because my lord the factory 15" wheels are foul.

The tyres wear much faster, Soarers run smooth on factory 15s/16s

To answer your question, no. Running slightly buckled rims wont hurt your Soarer. Probably better to get those wheels fixed though, depending on the cost I guess. But what ever you do, don't put those god awful stock wheels back on your Soarer unless you can't avoid it :S

I don't agree with Spencer - excessive vibration will put extra strain on steering and suspension components and would certainly increase wear - at least long term. Also any source of vibration can loosen bolts etc (I once had a engine mount nut fall off a car after ignoring a vibration for too long!) I'd get the wheels off and get them fixed or replaced ASAP, and avoid any long trips at speed until then.

Do you have spigot rings fitted?

No i don't have spigot rings fitted, how feasible is it to repair buckled rims? Keep in mind they are only BA falcon Xr6 mags so nothing spectacular

| Yeah they fit well considering the price - they are 17X8, here they are on my car wrapped in 235's, and spray painted black.

Deary me! Running on wheels that are buckled is insane to me, they are one of the most important parts of the car, especially from a safety aspect. Coupled without running spacer ringer you're putting excessive load on the wheel studs which are designed to only hold the wheel on the hub, the load through the wheel is meant to be transfered through the hub by the wheel resting flush with the center ring on the hub, this is why you should use hub spigot rings if the wheels fitted have a larger bore. If you neglect to fix the problem and push it too hard, without warning your wheels going to break off in a bend or over a pot hole! This is the result you can expect: Just think if that happens on the motorway or on the open road, you would put other peoples lives at risk & you own Get it fixed...

I absolutely agree with you, that's why as soon as i found out they were buckled i put my stock 15' wheels back on - then came on here to investigate! Thanks for the advice anyway.

If spigot rings were load bearing they wouldn't make them out of plastic.. That second pic looks to me like the last person to put that wheel on didn't do the nuts up right. Eventually the wheel became lose enough to allow water to seep in between the disc and the wheel and produce those corroded stains on the disc. Whoops..

The wheel spigots only purposes are to centre the wheel and bear the load. The studs only purpose is to hold the wheel on the hub, and is are not designed to be load bearing at all. Plastic spigot rings are typically made out of low compression acrylics that do a perfectly serviceable job of transferring loads to the hub.

| Hey guys just an update, looking to buy some new wheels and have happened across some generously priced 17' AU Falcon Tickford wheels, as below. Has anyone got a photo of what these look like on a Soarer?

Yeah mate, the black rims are from an Xr6, the chrome looking ones i posted above are from an Xr8. So basically the same! Just wanting to know if anyone has a pic of them on a Soarer?

| Well, i didn't end up getting the tickfords. I really wanted 17X9 on the rear and they were by 8 - so i picked these up for a measly $400! I think it looks great

I think they work quite well actually A fairly simple shape that tie in with the soarers simple body style. That said, they aren't too dissimilar to the factory 18" alloys on the UZZ40 soarers. Although yours are still better.

Cheers Scott! They are called 'Sauber' made in Japan, 17X8 and 17X9, nice amount of dish, not too gangster. Not sure on the offset. They are basically one of the many AMG style rip-offs that Mercedes used to use. For me, it's the perfect wheel for the Soarer, not too outrageous but enough to look clean.

Inside of the rim can't really see with the wheel on. Usually say et for offset.

Buckled rims and wheels out of balance will eventually chew out the wheel bearings over time. In addition, you may get a shimmy / wobble at certain speeds.
