keep seeing this one on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Toyota-Supra-Soarer-Front-Strut-Bar-NR-L-K_W0QQitemZ4602277724QQcategoryZ5543 6QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Just wondering if anyone has one (or more) fitted and do they really make a difference? I understand they would be noticable in a race situation but how about street use?

Ok you guys,
you can sort this one out!
Aristo 3.0V has Double Wishbone Suspension,
Same as our Soarers.
Then why does it (as you can see in the pic)
Have a strut Bar as a Standard Fitting?

Id like to see some good answers to this one!

I've got one, came with the car. Haven't driven one without one so I can't comment on any improvments etc

I have made all my comments in the thread referenced by Tom above, the threads further referenced in that thread, and possibly other threads otherwise unreferenced, including my response to Gary's question although at that time in relation to an MX-5 rather than an Aristo. So, I now plan to test my self-restraint by remaining a spectator on this thread.

I'd think you'd only notice the difference a strut bar makes ( if any) , in a race situation , on the street you'd never get the suspension sufficiently & constantly loaded up to be flexing the chassis to any great degree.(esp. a double wishboned Soarer , different with Macpherson struts) It's just another bullsh*t ,bling bling thing ( right up there with after market BOV's) , lots of bling , but no extra sting , a waste of money IMHO

I'm getting in some of those bars like in the 2nd pic , [ I belive they are an Otto Strut Bar ? ].
There is no doubt it stiffens things up and I don't care if I can feel the difference !!
I just want one !!
I want the KA-CHING when I open the bonnet !!

Aristo is a completely different chassis, larger, 4-door and therefore quite possibly not as stiff as the Supra/Soarer chassis and so warranted the factory fitting of a strut brace?

i don't think a strut bar will make much different on standard suspension.
i got a tein suspension sitting in the front with the strut bar and a standard suspension at the back.you can feel much different when the speed over 100km/h. front of the car very steady, but the rear of the car you is really feel fly.

They do make a difference, but to make one thing clear they do not stiffen the suspension.

They stiffen the chassis.

The big question is, is it required and does it make a difference, well early 90's toyotas are know to have quite a bit of chassis flex. Is it a problem NO but it is more than desirable. Proof of this is the later model soarers had additional body stiffening put in which indicates that there is more than desirable chassis flex.

Is it worth putting on a strut brace, I haven't and I probably wont as it doesn't make much difference.

I have heard that the cheap ones are worthless as they are not stiff enough to make a difference. Naturally a good one that is stiff and will probably make a small but noticable difference is going to be expensive and probably not worth buying, much better to spend the money elsewhere ie new struts, bushes or any other suspension component that is likely to be warn.

A sane analysis.

David

Looking at it from an engineering point of view often helps.

Yang, that is pritty much what I said spend the money else where. I would suggest new bushes and shocks a long time before springs though. I do care more about ride and comfort than most though.
