| Well i haven't seen a definitive answer to my question yet. I'm not interested in hearsay, conjecture, guessing, I'd like an Engineering reason why an Toyota Aristo 3.0V which has the same Double Wishbone Suspension (as our Soarers!),has as Standard, a Strut Brace?

| So that strut brace is factory? Only reason if it is factory would be to decrease body flex. |

| Possibly the Aristo need it because it's body is so badly built? |

| It is a bigger car so, weaker for the same construction. Pseudo-Disclaimer This comment does not constitute foresworn comment because it is a comment on a car and not a comment on a thing which is not a natural part of a car and besides, someone else said it anyway. Or, as Marlowe put it: quote: [Priest] Thou hast committed... [Barabbas] Fornication! But that was in another country. Besides, the wench is dead.

| Apart from being taller, wider, on a longer wheelbase with a wider track and weighing nearly 2.2 tonnes, no, not at all. Not that it has a lot to do with it. |

| Kerb weight of a GS300 is 1686kg... ~85kg more than a base model Soarer. Where did you get 2.2 tonnes from? |

| GS430 Simon. It was the brochure I had to hand, after looking at them late last year. The weight put me off them more than a bit. 2160kg to be precise. |

| GS430 kerb weight is 1695kg. You're looking at GVM, which is when the car is fully loaded. Unfair to compare that to the weight of an empty Soarer don't you think? |

| Very unfair. The irony is that I did not rely solely on glancing at the brochure but actually "confirmed" it on carsales where my eyes picked up the "2160" and moved off without checking what it was about. One way to make a mistake. Still, it may be heavier (although less dramatically) and bigger in all other dimensions but at least it manages to be shorter than the Soarer. Incidentally, a GS430 loaded with fruit only 9kg heavier than the GS300? I think I would like to see that on the scales. |

| Why David? The 300 would have an iron block 2JZ, the 430 would have an alloy block 3UZ. |

| The material Simon looked at said 1686kg but the one I since checked said 1620kg which seems more likely to me. Also, the GS300 does not use the 2JZ motor but a new all-alloy V6. |

| The *Aristo* does use the 2JZ motor, in GE or GTE forms. Your coat's getting an awful lot of use in this thread, David |

| Both Aristo and GS300 have been referenced. The GS430 and later the GS300 of which I spoke are the current models available in Australia and specified on the www.lexus.com.au web site or carsales, drive and similar (for what else would I be clutching a brochure?). I presume the Aristo in Japan is the same give or take some extras. The Aristos on Amayama are the 143 and 160/161 models dating back to 2000 and earlier. These meet my general description that they are larger than the Soarer except, being older, they use older engines and come in with weights of 1610 and 1680kg and a narrower rear track. | And the GS300s and GS430s referenced by yourself come with strut braces as standard ? And you concur that the Aristos do use older engines (i.e. 2JZ) ? It's a cool night out there - ripe for your coat |

| Yeah the newest new new GS300 has a V6, but we're talking about the body of the ones in the pics with the strut bars - ie the jzs161. Who cares about the new one, we don't have photos of it having a bar. So to speak. |

Is the Aristo not bigger? Other than me looking up the wrong weight item, what fact in the subsequent discussion of the GS300 and GS430 are you seeking to deny? Still, red herrings are highly appropriate. You could stretch a dried one between the strut towers. |

| Chill out man, I'm just saying if we are talking about the strut bar on the car in the photo, let's talk about the car in the photo. Not having a dig at ya. Just talking about the new GS body has little relevance on the matter at hand - the old GS body. |
