For the last few days I have had a really annoying 'tick' noise coming from the rear of the car. It started after a minor burn out.....

I took it to a mechanic, worried it may be something to do with the diff. Top bloke put it up on the hoist and helped me locate the cause, at no cost.
Thought we had found it as the noise seemed to be coming from the rear d/s tyre (when spun, could here a loud ticking). Took the car home and removed the wheel, caliper, and rotor. Found one of the park brake shoe springs bent.

After fixing that, put the car back together and went for a spin. The noise is still there!!!!

It only happens when off the gas. A few seconds after taking foot off the pedal, it starts ticking..... HELP!!!!!

Has something moved into the wheel arch or something like that, due to deceleration forces? does the noise have the same frequency as the wheel speed? Jack the car up, spin the wheel and spot the knocking sound again?

Need more information to diagnose over the internet! :-)

I have jacked it back up and spun both rear wheels and neither makes a noise now. It only does it when the vehicle is moving, but the foot is OFF either the brakes or accelerator.

As soon as you put your foot on either, the noise stops.

This has me thinking it's something to do with the drive train....

I am thinking it is a brake pad that is loose enough to be touching the rotor that it gets picked up and then falls back making a 'clack' each time.

Every time you brake or accelerate it takes the slack out of the drive train , Its may be the gland nut adjustment on the front of prop needs tightening (large nut ) or a U/J giving up, hopeful the diff will be OK ,burnouts strain drive trains
