So folks, I'm currently getting my old 31 back on the road. I've been driving it a little lately, on a 28 day permit from Vicroads, and I'm a little concerned about the ride. The car has been laid up for over three years, so it'll come as no surprise if there are bits and pieces that are completely shagged.
1. The steering wheel sometimes shudders heaps 2. Sometimes, when you go over a harsh bump, the right tyre touches the cover inside the wheel well. I'm fairly confident in the airbag. 3. The whole front end generally shakes and shudders as you're driving along.
Since I'm confident about the airbags, and I don't think either of them are about to give up the will to live, I'm thinking that some of the suspension and steering bushes could be toast. It feels like there's a jolt before the dampers and shock absorbers can do their job, which suggests to me that the little rubber bushes holding everything together probably don't have the same elasticity they once had.
Question is... which ones should I investigate changing? A visual inspection is useless. I'd get in there and change the lot of them, but that's gonna cost some serious money that I don't really have right now.
Any suggestions?

I'm also thinking that the driver's side airbag could be shagged. Considering getting some coilovers, then saving up my pennies for brand new airbags all round. I intend to club reg my car when it hits 25 years, so I would really like to keep it fairly original.
I'll definitely check the control arm bushes out though! Ta.

Take it too a good suspension place (not pedders) and get an inspection, I'd say look at getting new lower control arms for the front, inner and outer rack ends, rack bushes, upper front and rear arm bushes (rear ones are painful) also check wheel bearings.
after your wallet and sphincter recover from that the car should be much better!
