I have a constant sqeek/sqeek.....sqeek/sqeek....sqeek/sqeek.. happening on my right hand side, when I am turning right or veering right at any time when the suspension is warm. It doesn't seem to be there or at least is very faint when first driving on cold suspension. From the driver's seat it sounds like the right rear but other times it seems like it is from the right front, maybe both? Or could it be something else? The sqeek is even there on the freeway with wheels in the straight ahead position as it rides up and down on the slight undulations, when everything is very warmed up after say 80 klms. I have Bilstein heavy duty shocks with Eiback springs and height adjusting sleeves (gixer drew set up), all brand new from the U.S. about 30,000 klms ago. I put new Vlamos LCA bushes in at the same time. No abnormal tyre ware, either front or back. Have had the front brakes on and off a couple of times looking for something and thought that it might be that the wheel nuts were not tight enough, allowing movement in the front discs and even thought that I had fixed it by tightening the nuts up super tight but then when the suspension warmed up again, there it was a loud as ever. Mystery? Has anyone had this before, help?

Hi Tom, is that a guess or have you had experience with a sqeek from the sway bar bushes?

guess. they are easy to take out, maybe take out, clean and apply some "grease suited for rubber" and see how it goes.

They are also cheap to buy if you want to fit new ones, and there is a tutorial available. http://soarercentral.com/sc-forum/messages/37/1538.html?1123034481

I did mine with new Toyota ones but did not apply grease. Still have a squeek. It happens when I apply the brakes but is not the brakes. Sounds like stretching rubber.

Hey Tom, I took the right hand front bolts out of my sway bar and the rubber was perfect like new, so I put some rubber grease in and although I haven't done a long run yet, haven't had any more squeaks from the front. Lets see if that is it? There is a little squeak in the rear, only very slight, so if the front one is really gone I will do the rear. Looks good. Thanks

The sway bar mounts yeah? I think I might do the same. Just get any sort of rubber grease from supercheap or autobarn?

Just a heads up on the front sway bar bushes (part no. 48815-24051) they are now a discontinued. That's straight from a Toyota dealer in Japan, found out after trying to order some in.

I just did mine with rubber grease and it seems to have fixed the squeaking. Will see if it comes back but so far so good.

The grease did help but still have a squeak, not all the time? I think that although the bushes look good, they are worn so that they do not grab the sway bar very tightly. I think that maybe a shim slipper might fix that. Will have to get around to trying it. You can get poly ones but they might squeak too after a while, like many poly bushes do?

I put new Toyota bushings but the squeak still occurred. Assumed it was something else. When I saw this I decided to give it go. I only had time for one side. It seemed to fix it but after half hour of driving it started squeaking again. I got around to doing the other side and so far no more squeaks. Wondering if it's just a coincidence to do with moving the sway bar around. I've probably done 100kms without any noise. I used a heap of grease on the second side. I am willing to give poly bushes a go. I like the idea of a firm riding Soarer. I will be sure to use plenty of grease though.

I installed new whiteline sway bars recently and used the squeaky nolathane bushes that come packaged with the bars. Despite applying the supplied grease, the squeaks started only a couple of weeks in. So, this weekend I sprayed some wet PTFE lubricant on them - I don't want to have to take the bushes off to lubricate them if it needs to be done regularly. Anyway, simply spraying the lubricant on got rid of the squeak. I'll let you know how long the effect lasts, but still a much easier option.

What spray is that? Like silicon spray? And how is the feel of the poly bushes?

I believe it's a Teflon spray, by WD-40 and ok for rubber and plastics (with the exception of one or two types). I've done all new rubber bushes on my V8 and for a smooth ride they can't be topped. They also don't squeak. But on the VVT-I I'm progressively replacing bushes as needed with nolathane. Stiffer, more transmission of road bumps but not nearly as bad as people make out. I'm happy with them in a car set up more for performance than luxo-barge.

Ok, back again after buy a $20 can of the PTFE from super cheap and no better, seemed worse, so I pulled them off again and gave it another round of rubber grease, plenty, but no improvement!! Actually the squeak is getting worse. Not there when I drive out in the mornings but not long before it starts. I am thinking that it can't be the sway bars. I tightened up the springs, wondering if it was them but made no difference. Must be something else, where to start, the least expensive place. Any one out there had this phenomena and fixed it?

Is it the actual shock? Check for leaks.

No leaks Scott but I had wondered myself a few days ago if it might be the shocks but discounted it seeing as they are quite new genuine Bilsteins from the U.S. Anyway I decided to see if it might be them and sprayed a good amount of the PTFE that I just bought on the top seal and went round the block, not really a good test on cold suspension but not a sound! Hey, I do hope it is that easy. Maybe the seals just needed a freshen up?? I will let you know.

Hey, you were right Scott. It was the shocks and the liquid PTFE did the trick. My wife had the car out today and it was not until she came home just now that she realized that there had been no squeaks. Great. Have a good day with the new found knowledge that suspension squeaks are not restricted to sway bars but can be the actual shocks themselves, even though they may be relatively new, about 40,000 on Bilsteins.

What's this PTFE and where did you get it? I might buy myself some. Spray on squeaks and move on with enjoying the car. Sounds good.

It is a newish WD40 product that has wet PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene). It costs about $20 a can at Super cheap. PTFE is hydrophobic: neither water nor water-containing substances wet PTFE, it has one of the lowest coefficients of friction against any solid.

Its been more than a month now for my swaybar bushes and still no squeaks after spraying with PTFE. Even if it starts again now, I could cope with spraying once a month...I'm under the car at least that often to do something or other.
