Hi anyone,

Not sure if many people are still using Soarer Central but i'm desperately looking for help anywhere I can find it.

I've moved my airbag suspension from my 97 uzz31 to a new 91 which had springs in it. The 91 soarer had previously had airbags in it as all the air hoses and compressor were still there. They were all completely rusted and blocked though so I had them replaced with the ones from the 97.

Anyway, after getting the hoses and compressor in, the car finally started to rise. Now, it's gone to full height and won't come down at all!

Even when I tried moving one of the rods down, it wouldnt release air and sink. Just sits there at full height.

I tried changing the ecu as well and adding a height controller but no difference. The car just doesn't want to budge.

Also, it's really stiff and not spongy. Seems TEMS is stuck on.

Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be? The only thing I haven't swapped over from the 97 in to the 91 is the reservoir container the compressor is connected to. If this were blocked as well, would it cause these problems?

Any help would be much appreciated :-)

do you know if the car "farts" when you turn off the engine i know mine farts to release pressure in the feed lines when shut off if it's not i'd check the solenoid valve next to the compressor

Hi Daniel, no it doesn't do that. My 97 used to release air when I turned it off but it was more like a hiss than a "fart". Basically the same sound it made when it was lowering.

How do I check the solenoid valve? Sorry I'm only just getting to know this system. can u point it out in a photo? Would be much appreciated!

well not knowing how to post pics doesn't help me but here go's next to the filter (can beside compressor) is a solenoid valve like the one's for each wheel unplug and use some wire to to jump 12v from the battery to one pin and the other pin to the body/negative if solenoid is working you will hear a clunk

Hmmm... sounds a little concerning if it feels really stiff.

How high is the car? If its hard and high the bag could be over inflating for whatever reason.

I would start with opening up the air suspension computer, checking if there are capacitors and replacing them all. Try it and see what the result is, even just swapping over another computer might be a good idea.

The height sensors too should be tested to make sure they are working right. I believe there is a procedure for this, from what I recall they make around 2.5v at 'normal' height and go up and down to +5v and 0v depending on the height the car is at. If one or more of those sensors is sending the wrong signal voltage to the computer it could be causing it to keep the car high.

While on the topic of computers, have you run OBD? Id be intrigued to see what Sus codes come up as that could answer your problems.

Thanks for the feedback guys! Good to see the forum is still kicking.

Daniel, I'll check the solendoid like you said. It could be that. The entire system is absolutely crap in the new car. The only things I haven't moved over are the solenoids, rods, sensors and the reservoir next to the compressor. I'll move them over and see if it makes a difference.

Mike, It could be the sensors. As I wrote above to Daniel, they haven't been changed over and even though it's rare for the sensors to fail, this air suspension system is in pretty bad shape.
I dont believe it's the ECU as I tested the one from the 97 Soarer and it made no difference.

Can you please tell me where the sensors are located? Is it hard to replace them?

Cheers

sensors are at the top of the adjustment rods you will need to take off wheels to get room to work but is straight forward

i do not think it is faulty sensors. the front struts work independently for height, and the rear work "as one".

You need to look for something common to all .

Hi guys, quick update.

So I tried the boot plug "hack" where you use the plug coming out of the OFF switch boot to manually turn the compressor/release on.

I tried the compressor first and it worked and pumped the wheels up fine. However, when I hooked up the vent solenoid to the 12v (no matter which wheel), it did not do anything...

Anyone have any ideas what this could be?

Could it still be the rod sensors? Because I've yet to replace them...

Hi everyone, just keeping this thread updated in case anyone has similar issues. I have just found out where the air vent valve is. All this time I thought it was in the boot! Well it's not. Anyway, long story short It's completely blocked and full of water which obviously explains why the car wasn't going down. Tomorrow, I'll replace the air filter and vent valve as they are the only thing left from the old setup and are both probably blocked and rusted.

good to see you found the problem hays if the valve in the boot is the bolt thing on the bottom of the manifold i think that's just a overpressure valve it's how i sit the rear down when at the drive in and having a 2nd battery in the boot makes powering the solenoids easy

Hi guys,

yes, the issue has been fixed!

After replacing the vent solenoid which wasn't working at all and then replacing the air filter which was full of water, everything started working again. I've tested now again with and without the height controller and it's all good.

I had my doubts because before it went up all the way and wouldn't go down which was the initial issue. But then when I manually let the air out of the bags, they wouldn't go up again. So I suspected there was something wrong with the ECU or sensors. I didn't think having a bad vent solenoid would stop them going up! But I guess when one thing goes bad, everything goes bad! haha

Anyway, i'm super happy it's all working again! Thanks so much everyone for your help! It's great to see people are still taking the time to help each other out on these forums even after they've gone mostly quiet :-)

If the filter has been full of water, the moisture might affect the pump = $$$$

Replace the desiccant (silica gel) in your air suspension filter/dryer.

Thanks for the info Peter. I ended up replacing the pump anyway just as a precaution so all good :-)
