I have just bought a uzz32, is it possible to change the hydraulic suspension to a conventional coil over setup?

Oh dear is the UZZ32 with plate LAC1? What number is the car, should say on the build plate in the engine bay UZZ32-0001.... If you try use coil shocks you wont have sway bars, and there are no mounting points for them. The rear suspension is totally different to all Soarers so you'd have to do a custom design a sway bar, and weld in fittings. Or remove the entire subframe for a standard car one. The front also has no provisions for a sway bar and all the active hydraulic equipment, valves, lines and components are in the way of where the sway bar goes. You'd have to remove everything which also means the suspension / power steer pump and retro fit a standard powersteer pump with custom lines and brackets, alternator would likely need to be sorted out too. All that work to have an inferior handling car. It really sounds like you've bought the wrong model. The active hydraulic suspension provides one of the best driving / handling cars from Japan at the time, nothing comes close. These are a very rare model with only a couple of hundred working vehicles known to still exist. You should sell the car on to someone that wants to enjoy it for what it is and has the time to maintain the suspension. UZZ30 and UZZ31 models are V8s without the suspension and have coil shocks so you can change them easily.

Luke don't do it..... Only 873 Vins, and probably only a few hundred left. They outhandle anything. The money you spend on coil overs redirect and get Peter Taplin to rebuild your struts and accumulators. You won't regret it. As mike says they are not at all designed to have coils and are very different to a regular soarer. However, if you do decide to go down that route please don't let the parts go to waste/in the bin. I would happily pay for freight and pay for the struts, valve body and sensors to save them.

Hahah that's a point. Although the car did sell. Still didn't confirm the chassis number However the Plate is LAC1, tried a few VIC plate check online tools but I couldnt see any UZZ32-0001XXX chassis numbers on the details unfortunately.

There is a plan at work Mike. To be honest I just hate seeing spares go in the bin or get lost into the ether for no one to use.

Just a simple is it possible as I was curious You guys need to relax and if you choose to reply to a question maybe have something helpful to say. |

Haha we just started having a chat. Have seen a fair few of these have that done to them. As we said in the first few posts, it's possible but not worth it Is it having problems? If so someone can probably help point you in the right direction to sort it.

Haha, well we thought you were serious about ruining your car. Most of us are proud active owners that love these cars and have seen many get ruined over the years with owners not understanding the performance ability of the Soarer active hydraulic suspension system and fitting coil overs. It would be like buying a twin turbo 1JZ Soarer and finding out the turbos need rebuilding, then just removing them because it was easier, so you are left with a slow 2.5 NA Soarer. Same with a UZZ32, take the suspension out, you are left with a boat that can't handle to save itself, especially without sway bars. If you said, " Hi, how can I repair my active suspension" you would have got a different dialogue here

So you just assumed. I didn't say "hi how can I repair my active suspension" because my suspension is fine Like I said I just asked as I was curious.

Hey Luke, Just ignore all those interstate and out of town 32 owners Seriously though, as Mike said, most of us are proud active owners, some of us a new 32 owners (me) and as a point to note, there's a couple of guys here in VIC who can rebuild the struts and suspension if needed. From the research I've done there's plenty of info around on here and other pages. For me I'll be looking to beef my 32 up a little, take her for some spirited drives and really put this suspension to test to see what all the fuss is about. Anyway I hope you enjoy your 32.

Fair enough. What number UZZ32 is yours then? It says on the build plate in the engine bay. |
