I just bought a TT GTL , on top of the front suspensions towers in the engine bays it has wires coming out of it.. is this called TEMS .. ? I looked in the cabin to try to find an adjustment for it but can't find anything .. is it adjusted using the norm/power button ? my other TT only have struts
The difference between the two options in mine is hardly noticable, is there anyway you can get them re-gassed or anything? i mean how noticable should it be?
When I changed the rears I noticed the difference more when I had the whole family onboard but it is still noticeable when driving by myself. I don't think it was ever supposed to be a massive difference anyway. Try noticing a difference when cornering hard. It is possible to get them reconditioned. This mob use to do them http://www.shockreco.com.au/

Daniel, have you tried a shock test (e.g. Pedders $14)?
If they are working properly then the roundabout test I mentioned should show up the difference between Normal and Sport settings.
Alternatively, does your car skip when you accelerate (not violently) in a corner with a small ridge or bump? Nothing to do with TEMS differences but a lot to do with whether the shocks are OK in the first place. My car is a low-mileage 1994 and I replaced them. The fronts were not too bad but the rears were shot. Quite apart from normal damper functions being restored, the steering feels more taught and the TEMS differences are more apparent. Still not huge though.
I believe you are right about the ECT switch being dual-function on TEMS TTs but then, I do not own one.

No, it does not take long to do that test. If they want to hoist it other than sitting on its wheels then do not forget the switch in the boot to keep the air bags calm.
Yes, it is expensive. Write down a figure between $3500 and $4,000 then look at it for a while. Look at the ceiling and out the window. Think how much nicer it would be with new shocks. Think how much nicer still it would be if you did not need them!
From the bumpy corner test, it sounds like you should be in luck.
does the TEMS have a master switch? apart from the pwr ect switch on the centre console?, and also im not sure how exactly they work but i assume it's something to do with pressurizing, is there a crtain ammount of time it should be left between modes, to ntice a difference?
