After lowering my Limited I understand I need to back off a couple of bolts that support suspension rubbers because they will be twisted in their housing. My problem is that I am unclear which are the ones I need to do that to. I have already undone the control arm bushes but did not observe any movement when I did that. I know that would be minimal, but I thought it would be observable.

If you have lowered the car that far then you will need a wheel alignment. Get them to fix it when they do that.

You need to do all of them. Top, Bottom, Front and rear. If you have rubber bushes.

If you have polyurethane bushes then you don't need to do it.

If you have some of each, then just loosen the rubber ones.

Remember to tighten them all up when you finish.

Remember, this needs to be done with the car on the ground at normal ride height.

With respect to a wheel alignment, what is considered a reasonable limit for lowering before a wheel alignment is required?

The reason I ask is that when the wheel alignment was done on my car i think the car was higher than what I normally have it set on. Not sure, but think it was maybe 30-40mm too high when I got it back. This was because I had tyres fitted at the same time, and not sure if the airbag switch was on/off.

It could be calculated from the suspension geometry what height change in static ride height meant how many degrees of camber change (any volunteers?) but if it were 3-4cm different then I personally would go for a realignment.

Wishbone suspension theoretically minimises camber change with bump (equivalent to lowering) so your suspension is more tolerant of lowering than, say, swing axles (crosses himself quickly) but you should do your alignment with height set on Normal. Whether the airbag switch was off during alignment should not matter because my understanding of it is that it simply switches off the pump; it does not itself affect height. That may mean you do not have a problem.

O.K. Too hard to do on the ground. I will pay to have an alignment check/adjust on a hoist and the loosen/tighten of the bushes. Thanks for the feedback.

The camber will change as the wishbones are not equal length.

I think also if the ign is on with the susp switch on when the car is jacked/hoisted it will think its too high and bleed off the pressure in the struts, This could cause damage when it comes back down.

It may or may not overcorrect when is figures all this out.
