Finally got an open center (97 model, so here's hoping it lasts!) today from our illustrious leader, aka Neilosan, scargo boy, grampa... begining to wonder if he's a spook, he seems to have a lot of aliases!!!
Anyway, he seems to think that replacing the center is a cake walk. I have a mate who could build a big block 8 from paperclips who said that he wouldn't go near a diff with a barge pole. So, has anyone here done an center swap themselves? I hopefully will be getting an acid trip from a jza80tt (complete housing) as well, but would still like to keep my existing one as a spare. I only ask as i have rung 3 diff joints in Adelaide, one won't touch imports and the other two both quoted in excess of $550 to do the job!!! Any input that you guys may have would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers Peter, I'll give them a call on monday. Still, if anyone has done the job before and wouldn't mind taking the time to talk me through it, I'd be most appreciative.

He hasn't told me how to remove the diff from the car yet. What am I ment to do, just keep taking out bolts until it hits me in the noggin? Then again after all the burns, shocks, cuts and oil saturation I've had from my car, concussion would be the least of my worries, hahaha. Garry's not going anymore (my ride) plus I may have to work over easter, unfortunately I won't know until about a week before. Either way, if I do it, the 2 days work would pay enough to buy a lsd, fix my interior, rebuild turbos or do one of the zillion other jobs that i need to do to my car. Would drive over myself, but I have a suspicion that, make that a 99.9% chance, that my car wouldn't make it there and back!!!

Just upon re-reading that wonderful piece of auto literature from Neil has raised the following question... What if one does not posses a rattle gun? What does 'torque setting 2' equate to with a normal torque wrench?
