Heya peoples. Im thinking of buying some stock soarer wheels and running some sort of street slick at the drags! I dont like the idea of burning through my expensive 265/35/18's all the time. I dont mind changing them over for track use, and i would rather get something that will hook upo and give me a little more consistency as i'd like to put it into some bracket days or days where there is some $$$ up for grabs:-)

Any ideas on whats avail? Thanks, Daniel.

If you want rubber for the drags I would get a set of drag radials. Semi slicks or R comps have aside wall which doesnt flex and wont give you that good take off as desired. Drag radials are best beacuse they have a softer sidewall for wrinkle and very soft outter layer which gets sticky when heated.

I'd go with falken azenis personally (They worked great for me at WSID). As mentioned there is better options, but its a trade off between wear and performance.

Dont get Roadstones for dragging >.>
I have a set and as a street tyre they are great.
As a drag tyre.. well.. after about 7 passes down at Kwinana, about 2kg of tred has made its way to my wheel arches!

Those Falken Azenis are track tyres and are NOT good for the drag strip. Track rubber may be soft but the tyre is not designed for drag purposes as they have a strengthened flex side wall. Because of this, they do not wrinkle and are too stiff for hard launching. So in other words, these are no better than regular street tyres.

Remember that theres more to tyres than just a tread pattern ;)

That maybe the case Adam, but I've been drag racing at 3 meets with azenis and they have worked awesomely. I've done a best 60ft of 1.9 in my old 200sx with them. I should be able to do a 1.8 with my soarer once I get the stall convertor changed to a 3200rpm stall.

Was just talking to Rocket Industries. Mickey Thompson-ET Street Radials seem to be the go. Available in many sizes. The 2 I was looking at were the 274/45/17 versions. About $265 each + gst(give or take) . Or the 275/60/15 . $245 + gst.
( sizes in bracket are recommended wheel width in inches)
The 275/45/17 measures 26 inches in Height.(9-11)
The 275/60/15 measured 28 inches in height.(9-10)
The 275/50/15 Was about the 26 mark also.(9-11)
The 235/60/15 Also available.(7-8.5inches)
To get something similar to your current tyre it would be best to measure them and find something from there.

Hope this helps anyone. These are what im currently leaning towards. If you wanna run some good numbers without hurting your street tyres that is.

Ben, i trust you baked them quite nicely first ?

With my old Civic which i used to take to the races quite often i experimented with normal road compound, silica compound and Yoko Advan R Comps (semi slicks).
My 60' time was no better with the semi slick R comps than it was with the normal street rubber. This was also backed up by having a chat to a tyre professional who told me how and why R comps are made and why they arent suitable for the drag strip.

Callum the civic was a semi built track car that i used as a daily driver. Sure it wasnt the fastest car in a straight line but it was a proven killer on the track against cars with over 3 times the power. But i got sick of it after 6 years and am now starting to learn more and more about the Soarer every day. The soarer may be slower but it feels nicer to drive. I wouldnt go back thats for sure !
