Hey guys,
As some of you would know I have been looking for 18” wheels for a while now, well.. 1 week to be exact =) with not much success. I have spotted a few nice examples which I do like, but not enough to put down my money on.
The only example I have come across so far that I have taken some interest in is the Starcorp Impul 18x8.5 and 18x9.5 dish package offered by tempe tyres.
The package (as im sure most of you will know , apparently they are very common now?) is $1700 for the rims, tyres, locknuts, balance, fitting all brand new.
Now at this price one has to question the quality of said items, is it too good to be true? I know a few members of the forum have these wheels on and I haven’t read anything bad about them as of yet? Any feedback on the wheels quality?
My main concern is the cheap nankang (235/40/18 – told on the ph by tempe, is this ok for the rolling diameter?) tyres.
Are they actually safe to use? Do they grip at all? How is the road noise? Any other issues?
Also ive been getting mixed messages about the offset, some say +50 and others are saying +38, could I get a clarification?
Looking at getting them with white spokes and getting them powdercoated in black.

Tempe should be able to tell you over the phone as it'll be stamped on the inside of the rim. I think that's the only way you'll be 100% certain what it is.

I run +40 all round, but as I recently had all my control arm bushes replaced, tramlining isn't an issue. It may get more noticeable as my tyres wear however.

I've got 38's on the rear and 40's on the front and I've found that tyre design and LCA bushes have more of an influence on tramlining than wheel offset.

wont get a lot of info off tempe, they are the McDonalds of the tyre world, if you take more than 5 min of their time you are wasting them money.
the rims are cheap and the rubber is quite cheap also (you get what you pay for), if you dont mind that (unless you are racing on them i wouldnt think it would matter) they should be fine other than the offset.
Tempe will give you one answer when you ask them the offset "what car is it for?" then you say "soarer" and they will answer "yeah they will fit" and then go on to the next customer...
they wont say if its the right offset, if its going to rub, if its going to screw your handling... but they will fit the stud pattern...
just do your homework first, cant go wrong with the price.
