Hey guys WHO has changed the diff center in the soarers?? Not the whole housing I need to pull out the old center and put in the new TRD one.

And was after anyone who had changed it and what problems had arisen. A mate quoted me $600 to do it and I feel that is out of the ball park

I have in '04. I've put in a Cusco 2 way LSD centre in. The main thing to look out for is the adjustment. Make sure you have NO end float and 1/8" backlash.

I paid $880 Gov Sanctioned Thievery inc to have a torsen center fitted with new bearings and relapping ... ettsettera, ettsettera, ettsetteraaaaaahh.
If you're mate is going to do all this, you're better off than me an it may save a lot of possible issues.

Mark if you are simply changing centres it's a pretty easy job. I had mine done for $110.00. But if you mean totally dismantling the diff centre, then that's a different story.

Yeah it is totally pulling down the diff center :-)

It's however out of the car now and I am chasing new bearing, seals and o-rings tomorrow as well as a new rubber uni thing as it has slight cracks in it but it's out may as well change now.

The gears weren't broken just machined off so they were nice and round :-(

I will post up pictures of the shavings tomorrow.

Can re-use the bearings if removed without damage..

Best bearings to use are genuine ones ( About $80 each )

The O rings will be perfectly fine to use.
As will the seals if they werent already leaking !

Have new seals, bearings, and o-rings as well as the rubber coupling.

Hopefully will be in the car by tomorrow night.

Is there any special ways of making sure the backlash is 1/8" or is it just the same as any other diff

Nick depends on the Torsen
www.v8soarer.com should help you out...

BUT I looked at it why pay 1000 bucks for a torsen center when you can get a brand new TRD lsd from Castle Hill Toyota (which took 6 days to come from Japan) for $1395??

Mark, Just same as other diffs, putting brass shims behind the side bearings to take up the slack. You will need a Dial Indicator.

Cool thanks Freeman
Neil said that the backlash is on the pinion and that it isn't removed so it is fine I just need to check the float on the side bearings

Dial Indicator sweet :-) Ill get my hands on one tomorrow
