Hi everyone,

I've been on this forum for a fair while mostly just sitting back and getting information but I was wondering if anyone can help me?
I have a 1j in my MX73 Cressida and the gearbox was slipping very badly, pretty much just revving out in 1st and just wouldnt change if you had your foot to the floor. So I got it rebuilt to MV Auto's stage 2 specs.
I have heard so much about there shift kits, so I was expecting it to chirp the wheels and really shift hard. It does shift fairly harshly just driving around town normally but when I boot it, it pops and farts and just wont really slot into gear unless you take your foot off a fair way.
Can someone please tell me how to adjust the line pressure cable and what setting it should be too?

thanks for all the help guys. I really need to get this sorted out because its driving me nuts!! And I've got big things in store for my car in the coming months :-)

Probably best to take it back to Mike at MV and get hims to sort it out. Is its all under warranty then anything you change may void it.

thats what Im thinking but Im in Whyalla about 4 hours away so I dont really want to be up for another $500 to take the trans out and send it back to them :-(
I was hoping the line pressure wasn't high enough lol Its never been adjusted the whole time since we swapped the 1J in.
How tight should it be? Its the line under the throttle cable going from throttle body to trans yeh?

thats the one.
strangely my stage 1.5 does the same thing, i have the line pressure set to max (no thread left) shifts hard when cruising, light throttle low load, hit it hard and its way too soft, won't chirp. It did shift well for about a week or two since then not up to speed.
Anyone else had similar issues?

cool. I tightened it up all the way so theres no thread left and it felt alot better. Still on very hard acceleration it wont change out of 1st gear at all its like it is in neutral not hitting a limiter. It changes alot better but still no audible chirping as such, on rough roads I can hear the dirt being kicked up though on some changes

I got a stage 1 and have similar issues. I can hear my box slipping. You might have minor slippage which would absorb the shift shock.

I knew that even with the shift kit, the ECU would still retard on shifts, but I didnt think it would still be this bad...Im just going to bite the bullet and go fully manualised box and then if its still doing it I've got serious probs :S

i dont know if their is something wrong with my box but its pretty slow at changing gears to, it sounds like its on rev limiter for a few seconds before it changes is that just normal or is their somethin wrong????

Guys
the shift kits from Mike at Mv's are good
the line pressure is adjustable as you have all gathered.
NOW
try this
1st gear changing into 2nd
pedal to the floor and it doesn't change???
back of a little bit and listen to the change
see if it changes (a direct change) no slipping into 2nd gear
so flat strap in 1st back off a little and into 2nd then flat out again just as it changes.
if you hear any slippage then that is ya drama
this also can happen between 2nd and 3rd.
more so between 2nd and 3rd
if you have had slippage before fitting the shift kit,the shift kit will not cure the slippage.

With mine it just feels like depending on what day and if the ECU wants to co-operate or not lol Somedays it will rev cleanly all the way to 7k, take my foot off a bit and it will bite hard, whereas other days it will start choking at 4k asif the ECU is confused if it wants to change or not :S Its a very weird and frustrating feeling! Im only worried because I have just had MV's complete stage 2 rebuild and it was still doing it so maybe I think its time to get it fully manualised to stop the ECU from intervening. I think with mine its more a case of the ECU screwing the things up, rather than the gearbox not changing quick enough, because when it gets the chance, boy does it change!! lol
