Well in my soarer Ive noticed that when you put the trans into R, or Drive theres a slight rock forward, its not bad but just annoying.

I did make a post a while back (jerky Auto) and from that not long ago adjusted the TPS cable but theres still no real difference...

The Gearbox oil looks good, nice and red. Any thoughts on what to do about this?

Did you loosen off the TPS cable or tighten it?

Yes, there wasnt a change when the cable was lose as possible.

What would happen if the TPS cable if its tightened up like in the TPS picture you posted a while back - Looks quite tight?

Is your idle speed correct, not too fast?
Are your engine and gearbox mounts in good condition?

I think I know what the problem is, Every time I change into a gear I just have the foot brake on and not the handbrake up as its the first thing I let down before selecting the gear... When the handbrakes pulled right up its much firmer, I also think with the HB shoes replaced it will be obviously stronger and hold the real wheels when the gears selected.

I think its just me being tooo picky about a slight rock forward. I must start using the handbrake last just before going off! Silly me :-)

I would have thought that your rear disks would have a much firmer grip on the rear wheels than those handbrake shoes would - unless the callipers rock a bit.

It might be less of a jolt with the engine hot and A/C off due to lower idling revs.

Hmm, dont get a shift kit then Mike; you get a huge jolt as reverse engages with even a stage 1! =P

Does it happen as it's coming out of 'PARK' or as it's going into 'REVERSE'?? It could be if the park lock releases it is giving a little jerk.

Try putting your handbrake on hard before you put it into park and leaving it on until after you have selected the gear.

Mmmm yeah Im just talking about being on a flat surface going from P to D its slightly jerky, more so going D - R etc especially on an angle but thats common on most cars from what Ive experienced.

If I have my hand brake tightened up and have the trans flushed with new Trans oil I suppose that will solve this problem. :-)

Just looking through the service records and in one of them it says: 'Shell ATF III (Dexron III type)' was used for the oil... Perhaps this is why the changes are rather hard?

From what Ive read only Toyota ATF T-IV should be used?

You can say that again...Mine kicks like a mule when simply thinking about putting it in reverse... when it does go in it bucks like a bronco!

Besides trans fluid, what delays the gear changes? Usually there is a pause of about 1 second before Reverse engages. The longer the pause, the harder it slams in the gear, creating that jerk reaction...

In a V8............Absolutely Correct!

Get the trans serviced/flushed PRONTO!.

You will need 12 liters of Type IV, as in 3 x 4l tins.

Toyota part number: 08886-81015 (4 ltr.Tin)

I don't understand that Gregg, I have a stage 1 and it's quite smooth.
It was very bad the first 3 months after it was put in but it's now very good.

There are stage one shift kits and stage one shift kits...The MV's later stage one is extremely smooth, the early ones not so.
