The stock temp sensor is in the sump.

If you can, take the sump off and drill and tap it for the sensor.

If not, you could make up an adaptor for the gauge and plumb it inline with the cooler line from the tranny to the radiator. This will give you a higher than sump temperature though.

I dont really want to drill holes Anish, can't I just take the stock temp sensor out and replace it with the autometer one??? Or will I be upsetting the Auto ECU, I dont know if the Auto ECU needs a reading of Temp, just taking a stab in the dark....

It does need the temp sensor. Lockup converter doesnt engage unless its over a certain temp.

Use a fatory temp adaptor from an Aristo , Some older Supras & Soarers ( 20 series )
Goes onto the factory cooler line..

Or just tap into the cooler line yourself ( rubber hose end )

mine is exactly the same as Shane's. Best option IMO. Only cost about $25 to get drilled and tapped.

There's a little square thing with two wires coming out on the valve body of the spare A341E I have as a spare. It's definately a temp sensor.

Bugger.

What about this "ECT light flashing after stalling it up for a while" bizness?

It's more than likely feeling slipage.
Or the Lockup.

Once it flashes it should have stored a code, do a code retreval and see what it says. :-)

Don't know about the soarer auto but my jzx81 a3041LE definitely does not have a stock temp sender.
