Talk to MV's about it. Can't fin the number but a quick search should turn it up posted somewhere.
Personally I'd do a stage 1 kit, cooler and torque converter for about a $k and see how it goes. You may want to stick it in a decent 2nd hand 'box if yours is no good. A good 'box will last a while if shift kitted unless the kit is too hash or no oil cooler or torque converter clutch disintegrates. You can upgrade the shift again later if the stage one is no good but the latter version stage one is a gem.
If you've got a spare $5 k or $6k then ring Neil and book it in for 5sp manual conversion.

I'd go a stage 1.5 kit if they are still made. I've got a stage 1 and it's a bit mushy on full power shifts.
When u install the shift kit, change all of the accumulator 0-rings as well, they are less than $0.50 each.
I'd hold on the converter if you're trying to save cash becuase if you rebuild the box you'll have to pay for removal of the box again. Talk to the guys at Western Suburbs Automatics in Rocklea if you want a drive in drive out service with 3 day turnaround. They do the shift kit and converter mods included in the rebuild price. Was quoted $2000 for a rebuild with the lot and an extra $300 for extra Kholene frictions and steels.
As far as fluid goes, dexron 3 is ok with a shift kit but I'd go for the toyota T-IV as it more heat resistant than mineral dexron 3 and costs the same if not a little cheaper. Transmax Z is a synthetic dexron 3 but costs a fortune.

Alright. thanks guys. also i was messing around inside the car today and do you know exactly what size speakers can fit into the door? i mean if i mod the lil plastic box they mount to

Why mod a perfectly well designed speaker enclosure that's very difficult to better? I spend time fixing stuff that needs fixing. If you must upgrade the very good factory speakers find something that fits. It's the most common size of good quality speaker made anywhere anyway or near enough. very minor clearance mods will fit the best mid-bass speakers made anywhere at any price in there. And they are all 5 inch speakers. Few serious speakers ar 6 or 6.5"

Mark the only difference between the stage 1 and 1.5 kit is the stage 1.5 will put more pressure on the clutch packs (holds them tighter) ever other aspect of the kit is the same stage 2 is a totally different ball game. stally's arn't that expensive either through MV's i got a very pleasent suprise when i asked mike about them compared to up here thay are half the price

If the 1.5 is still a progressive kit like the newer stage ones then fine. Otherwise I wouldn't want it in a street driven car even if it did do a bit of track work. I won't have an early stage one either for the same reason. I just don't know if the 1.5 is modified like the new stage ones. If so I'd have one for sure.
