Well, now that the Auto - Manual gearbox conversion is completed, I now need to go and fix all of the things that are not quite right. Namely, I now need to get my new manual gearbox rebuilt because I got sold a box that has trouble finding 2nd and 4th, has a noisy sound to it, as if it has straight cut gears, and has a lot of slop in the shift mechanism.

So, does anyone have any suggestions of a GOOD place to take my R154 to be rebuilt in Perth as I should be there to live fairly soon (Next 3 weeks), and I can't drive this box the way it is any more.

Your help is appreciated.

Next question, does anyone have the correct part number for the solid clutch line that goes from the Clutch Master cylinder to the flexible line? (I was supplied the wrong part for my conversion).

Also, does anyone have the part number for the brake pedal (Just the pedal, not the whole assembly) as I was also given the wrong part.

EDIT: This post has been edited. I was a little angry when I wrote it, so I have toned it down a bit :-)

I reckon you'd be better off trying to source another box mate, rebuilding one will cost you a $hit load more!

You can get a brand new one for about $3200-$3500 I'm not really sure, the best one to talk too is NEIL.

Thanks Don! Although, that pedal looks like it is a longer pad, like an auto pedal? The seller told me it may be easier to just cut down my auto brake pedal, but I sort of wanted it to be done properly. Maybe I might just cut my old auto brake pedal down after all.

Peter, I am going to tomorrow when I get back to work and have the person's email address. I didn't mention any names on purpose as I don't want to ruin this persons reputation. To be totally honest, the reason for this is because I think the person selling the box to me did not use the box himself, so it is not his fault, therefore there should be absolutely no reason for me to sully the sellers good name, which he does have. I don't have any ill feelings towards the seller, as I said, I am sure he did not know the box was in as bad a condition as it is, as I am fairly sure I remember him saying he didn't use the box himself.

If the person that sold me the box reads this, mate, please PM me for a chat, or email me. As I mentioned above, I am not holding any grudges as there was probably no way for you to know the box was in bad shape.

Troy,
Email me on TUESDAY and I will send you,
NEW Brake Pedal ( Direct replacement )
( As they are Ex Japan otherwise )

I also have the metal line from Master to Slave flex line.

The slop in the shifter will be because the rubber grommet that sits under the shifter ball will be missing or stuffed. This can be taken from ANY Toyota that has the same shifter ball setup.

You can buy them for a couple dollars from Toyota Aswell.

When my car was converted to Manual my shifter was very sloppy aswell, Manny gave me the part numbers for the little plastic bush that the shifter sits into and that fixed the problem and stiffened the shiffter up. You can also order a gasket for it aswell.

I think i have a spare gasket and plastic bush for the shifter.

YOU are a top bloke! Pity there weren't more like you.

Back on topic now. Depending on the style of interior you are going for you could just get hold of a pedal kit from someone like Momo etc. There are some tasteful sets about (ie less bling more purpose). As long as there is some rubber on the pedal face the authorities don't have a problem.

Cheers Bags :-)

Neil, Cheers mate, I will give you a shout re: those parts.
Can you just cast you eye over my other thread on
http://soarercentral.com/sc-forum/messages/31678/121984.html?1166787410
and just let me know that I do have the wrong part please? Because although it is not a 3D picture, Bag's part does look very similar to the one I have. I made it fit by straightening it out and making it curl back on itself with the flexible line, but it seems too long, and doesn't run up against the firewall like you said the correct one would.

The bush you are referring to is currently in the shifter assembly, and although a little worn, is not the sole cause of the horrible sloppyness unfortunately, as I can see the shift mechanism that goes in to the box moving around freely when I move the stick :-(

Besides, even if it were that, the box is still quite loud and doesn't go in to some gears, so I still need to get it rebuilt unfortunately. Thanks for the effort though :-)

Ben, cheers mate, it's not actually the rubber pad that is the problem, it is the metal pad at the end of the brake pedal, it is an auto one, not a manual one, therefore a lot wider.

Troy, manipulate the line to suit, it's easy to bend.

You can heat / bend / weld the manual pad onto the auto pedal, but its far easier to just put a newie in.

For the shifter, remove gearstick, then take the 6 12mm bolts from the top housing and check the bolt that holds the shifter mech is tight.
( if this is loose, it will make gear changing very hard )

Checked it this morning :-( Unfortunately it was tight, so that can't be it. I have to replace that bush anyway, so I may as well get a new one and see if it does make it any better, although because I can see the shaft that goes in to the box is moving a lot, I doubt it will tighten it up enough.

Thanks for the list of cars too, pretty much the only car that gets sold around here is Hilux's, Landcruisers and Dunnydores, so if I can say it's from a Hilux they don't look at me funny :-)

Cheers Neil, I will call you tomorrow :-)

Does anyone have the vehicle ID of a Manual Soarer that they wouldn't mind giving me so that whenever I need to order some parts for a the manual, Toyota can look it up? Apparently my branch needs the number (Not the VIN, the Japanese vehicle number)

Cheers :-)

Model: E-JZZ30-ACMVZ

Note my car has the stock 5 speed(R154) and LSD (A02B) and was built at plant A22 apparently

Perth Diff and clutch in Belmont.
Delvin is the man.
They have fitted my torsen center, (new bearings and all) and done my rear wheel bearings during which he had to source and replace one of the hubs as it was chewed out. Pricing was good and he did mention during a discussion that the gearbox rebuild would be about $1300 if I needed one, although this was 12 months or so ago.
If I do have geabox or similar mechanical issues, this is where it will go.

Ben and Tom, Thank you both!

Ben, I think that will be the correct number, I will most likely find out this afternoon when I go in to order some new gear. I appreciate that mate :-)

Tom, That is exactly what I was chasing, someone with a past experience with a good place! After I fix the few things that could be causing some of the issues, if I do still need to get the box rebuilt, I will take it to these guys, and the price is about half of what I expected, so there is probably no reason for me not to get it rebuilt anyway while I am on one of my 9 day swings on site! At least that way I know it is all brand new and back to full strength again.

Cheers guys!
