when considering airbags remember that most of our cars have the old style 'single stage deployment', which won't be compatible with the newer 'two stage deployment' airbags.

Yeah, the airbag won't work anyway. Is your main concern legalities or safety?

Here's a link to a guy in the US with a 1jz converted sc400 with the IS200 steering wheel. Interesting gear lever too, looks like a manual but it's actually an auto. One of the best sc's I've ever seen. After watching his video I will not stop until I make this happen.

That GS300 wheel looks crap as the airbag is triangular. I wish there was a steering wheel that had the square airbag from a Soarer but buttons aswell. Is250 wheel looks good however you will have buttons for audio and menus that you wont be able to use so it a no from me as it wont work like factory. I would have bought it if it only had up and down buttons or flaps.

Seb dont worry i did something stupid last night and bought a IS300 steering wheel and airbag so no competition from me unless i change my mind and want an IS250 wheel or something else from Lexus. As for why i want an airbag, mainly insurance/legality however also safety is a big think considering if i were to have a crash and was in a bad way i couldnt get compo or life insurance to pay out. So bit of both. That SC looks so much better in pweter, was one of my favourite looking SCs from the exterior but not wrapped in vinyl and carbon fibre stickers on the lip of the GT-Cs it looks crap.

Anyone know if CAMS box will allow for button control, im pretty sure from memory it is able to change gears with the cruise control stork. Anyone able to confirm this?

Some dealer had a brand new airbag and then another guy had the outer wheel both off a 2005 IS300. So got them at the buy it now price on the US ebay. Postage is gonna be a pain and although i could have pretty much bought a TRD airbag steering wheel for a few more bucks it doesnt have buttons now does it haha I wont button! But seriously IS200/300 is a good wheel, air bag shape pisses me of a little as its like an S15, GS300 wheel looks gay, RX300 looks gay, IS250 wheel would be nice if you could some how delete the audio and menu buttons. Unless anyone can point me in the direction of a better wheel that the IS300 design wise then i dont think there is a better alternative.

David can you please post up some pics of the different wheels as I think that some ebayers incorrectly label them. As far as I know they are all triangular and there is no difference between the IS250 and IS300 wheels. The RX300 airbag doesn't have the big round bulge in it which I like, so I'm wondering if that will fit the IS250/300 steering wheel. Like I said earlier I really want the 07 IS250 steering wheel. It apparently also fits the IS350 wheel but I can't find a centre.

Yeah Seb i wont bother with pics but IS250 and IS300 from a 2004 is different. The IS250 wheel has a flat airbag and the shape of it is different to the IS300 which has a circular bulge in the centre like an S15 airbag. Also the two airbags dont look to be interchangeable so yeah different wheels all together. As for the RX300 wheel, depending on what year you get i hate the perfect triangle shape of the airbag. Yeah i would prefer a rectangular shaped Soarer airbag above and beyond anything but nothing out there with up and down shift buttons. Also a few other problems i see with the RX300 wheel is that it looks cheap on the early models, almost like a S13 silvia plasticy, rubbery cheapo wheel. Then on the later models you have the problem of additional buttons for menus and audio which you can use and i hate as it doesnt feel or look like factory if it doesnt work. I know the bulge is the best look but compared to a IS250 and RX300 the IS300 steering wheel is as close as ill get to my MOMO competition steering wheel as its sporty, has hand supports, is leather, and looks classy. Then you have the additional bonus of the up and down shift buttons to control the supra stick or CAMs box.

Personally what im after is :
-up and down shift paddles or button however no menu or audio controls
-sport curves for gripping the wheel properly, dont want anything like a Camry steering wheel.
-Need to be leather and have an airbag.

Only thing that meets these requirements is the IS300 steering wheel and once my interior is all dont the bulge shouldnt look to out of place. Unless there is another Lexus model with a similar wheel with buttons and a non bluge airbag the IS300 is as good as its gonna get. Im getting mine for just over $700 plus postage. All up around $785 will be the total cost.

From the looks of things the airbag looks quite similar in shape as the IS300. The other wheel looks more circular with less hand grip areas but it all about the buttons and the Supra wheel obviously has none.
