Just noticed this problem...hard to describe but here goes... when I occasionly put my foot down and go flat out, it kind of has trouble changing gears and causes the car to somewhat jump...
when you go drive normally the gears change fine... and sometimes when I go flat out it wont happen and sometimes it will...

Things to check:
1. Correct transmission fluid (Toyota) 2. Transmission fluid in good condition and unit serviced regularly 3. Throttle cables correct tension 4. Transmission faults such as solenoid issues (see transmission specialist)

Matthew, I too have the same problem. When i floor it the engine stalls at the end of first gear and does nothing until i release throttle. Its a horrible feeling and it also happens when cruising on the freeway. I floor it at 100km/hour and the car stalls. Its like it is saying wtf? to me. (91 V8 GTL)

mathew i agree; I dont know if this helps but i had the same problem after changing transmission. Hesitation under load. I assumed it was the new box but turns out it was related to water in the spark plug cavity...(had some other issues re mechanic cleaning up engine). Even after the water was gone it was still doing it. New set of plugs=fine. I would investigate throttle body components/injectors etc before assuming gearbox. From experience with 2 tranny changes the gearbox will slip and engage harshly and worsen over time.
