Other option is just grab a cheap Aristo engine and use it.. For $3k, ya cant really go wrong.
BUT, A GE is only about $800 for engine. If you do know a machine shop, the GE HAS the galley's for the squiters, and you use the squiters from the 1JZ
Even though its only a GE,,it's still bloody tough.
This exact same thing happened to my mates w58 in his rx3, happened at 195kmph and dropped the tail shaft (bent that also). You will find that the input shaft on the gearbot is probably bent also making that worthless also. We left my mates gearbox in the carpark at willowbank and he lost the starter motor at 3/4 track somewhere.
Other things in common.. his clutch was brand new also.

Christian - yeah, that does look/sound familiar.
Input shaft is definitely bent, so my box is lunched. Investigating gearbox options atm. May have found another W58 box for around the $500 mark, and I can use the rear casing etc with the shifter extension and electronic speedo sensor off my current box - this will most likely be the quickest and cheapest solution.
Neil, can a Supra R154 fit, or is it Soarer-only??? I'm led to believe the shifter setup is too far back/forward in the Supra R154s??? I can get a relatively cheap R154 (1300 for box and bellhousing) but it is out of a Supra.
Other options bought up in the discussion were using a Nissan push-type pressure plate, which as yet I've not heard of exploding in the same way. This was then extended to using an RB25 box as well, but considering they're roughly the same price as an R154, I cant see the point.
A totally left-of-field option was purchasing a brand new Ford T5 gearbox for somewhere around 1100 delivered, and then adapting pressure plate/bellhousing from there.
Also raised in the discussion with my mechanic was the possibility of getting W58 cross-set gears made up.

PPG gearboxs make new stronger gears for the w58 box`s but very expensive..
mate my opinion is this Do it rite the first time. as many who have learnt the hard way me especially, for the money spent trying to get much cheaper alternatives it ends up costing more in the long run.
maybe save up some cash and get a half cut manual.
if you need a car then just buy a little buz box till you fix the car properly.

Dont use a T5 from a Ford.. WEAK gearboxes trust me. My old 183rwkw 4L Falcon munched 4 of them in 4 years. And ALL of them BLEW whilst driving slowly with soft gearshifts...
The fact i used to race it ever week at the DRags probably didnt help, but if it could chew them up, im sure you will too!!!
Ask alot of guys who own BA series 1 XR6 Turbos with a T5 manual behind them..... I know Heaps of guys whom have blown them and then decided to either trade up on the newer 6 speed or just pay for a 6 speed conversion.
T5's are weak in my opinion for a Soarer of your output(current and expected).

Yeah, not going the T5 or RB25 gearbox option, for reasons such as not wanting the hassles associated with getting the speedo to work, farbicating bellhousings, etc.
Just trying to source an R154 is proving to be a major obstacle atm

And By the way dude.. Your soo lucky about your own safety in the end.
Cars can get fixed, people never come out the same way!!! Trust me.
Mate, im sure it will all work out in the end for you, although the end may be a little further away from where you want it, but it will. Hang in there man.
