Hi all,

I believe the rubber from the middle joint in my tailshaft is a big wobbly , do you guys know where I can get one without getting ripped off ?

Is it worth changing the bearing as well whilst I'm there , or just the rubber ?

I can kinda push and move it up and down by hand , and I feel this backlash in transmission. Diff is perfect , no play , and so is gearbox ( manual TT here , full stock ) .

WHen you reverse , if you keep constant throttle , you feel this wang-wang-wang , like there is a big play in transmission ,and I am 80% sure it is that rubber in the tailshaft ...I can also feel it when I accelerate over 3000 rpms ( on boost ) and quickly get off gas .

Many thanks , this board is great !

Get a mechanic to check that, it sounds like a centre bearing or uni joint and is potentially dangerous.

Uni joints are perfect ; even with my big spanner could not move it a mil . The centre bearing is a possibility though ...

Any chance I can buy elsewhere but Toyota ? I feel like a ripoff will happen there :-)

Possibly a wreckers, or have a look in the for sale section here and see what you can find :-)

Hi all ,

I found the problem ; someone said it is the diff , then when I raised her , and locked the driveshafts , there is no play in the diff . The play is in the driveshafts....!!

Is it normal for these to develop a bit of play at arround 100,000 kays ? Not very bad , but I have them off the car now , and getting them reconditioned . I don't like the car to be jerky.

cheers

Just a note, I was reading the soarer bible the other night and if you are changing the centre bearing or associated bits, the alignment of the tailshaft appears to be very important, It would be worth checking the bible and making sure you or your mechanic sets it up correctly.

thanks for that ; it is the same thing on all tailshafts if you change the centre bearing as the tailshaft is balanced ..

The shaft reco guy said they are allright and did to them , but they definintely have a bit of play ; maybe I am too picky ?

Now I have to fork out courier fees and such ,and nothing's been done . Damn.

I still haven't figured out this ; is anyone having the same issue as me ? Backlash in transmission and nothing seems to be really wrong ( only thing I didn't take out is the centre bearing ) .
