I know there are many threads about this topic (believe me I must have searched and read almost every one of them :S)However none of them ever seem to be really conclusive...i.e. we never find out what was really wrong and what was done to fix it *sighs*
My soarer has the ECT Warning flashing on the dash. Yes I've run a diagnostics check on it yes it is code 42 (actual reading by the guys at tuff toys in Bulimba say it came up as 'back up speed sensor' code 42 whatever that means). No my cruise control does not work. No the O/D light does not come up on the dash (when it's on or off nor does it flicker) Yes I have replaced both speed sensors (shudders recalling cost) at the top left hand side and at the rear of the transmission near the drive shaft.
What am I missing Guys??? Any one know what's wrong and what I have to do to fix it??? Thanks for the help!!!

LOL well I'm hoping hey...seems like I've stumped every one with this one. It has to be something related to the overdrive switch (and why it doesn't light up on the dash) but I can't work out what cos overdrive works fine and the gear box is faultless with its changes hey...but I can't find any loose connection any where and when the diagnostics test says 'back up speed sensor' and I've changed the sensors...

The signal from the speed sensor goes to the ECU via the combination meter. The circuitry on the com. mtr. is used to tidy up the signal, and given the other issues we get with this item it's a likely source of the problem. The signal feeds into the com mtr on pin 13 of C14, and back out on pin 14 of the same connector. From there is feeds the main ecu, as well as the cruise control ECU and the power steering ECU. It certainly seems worthwhile checking round this area, especially if you have a tame electronics guru inn your vicinity
