Hi, have just got my 92 TT Soarer on the road and loving it except for one thing, the noise!

The people I bought if from said it had a brass button tripple plate clutch (or something), and it makes a grinding sound when the pedal is depressed,(this I can deal with) from what I hear/read this is normal...true??

The car has had a supra 6 speed put in it and from what the mechanic said when they had a look, when they did the thrust bearing, the conversion was done properly

But the thing I cannot deal with is, when the car is at idle it makes a slower, louder rattle, also when in gear and at lowish revs, its loud and annoying and people stare big time......this does not seem normal. I have had the thrust bearing replaced and no difference. It does not seem to be coming from the engine more toward the gearbox or clutch area.

Any ideas what this could be??
Thanks!

Is normal for a Multi PLate Clutch setup... Ask any of the Supra guys and they will all complain about the same thing with a twin or triple or quad plate...

Its something you either have to get used to, or remove it and replace it with a single plate style.

Depends on the power output and mods as to what tyoe of clutch would be best suited to your application.

Its normal, even the harsh rattle when the clutch is not being used? Jeez.

I like the performance of this clutch and am used to the tiny grab point now, but am just finding it hard to deal with my nice new car sounding like and everyone at the lights staring because it sounds like my drive line is about to fall out!! I actually had two guys in a WRX pissn themselves at me the other day, not cool!

From what I hear this type clutch setup is all but indestructible, would this be true?

I can probly learn to deal with it, depends on performance pros and cons I guess.

Any idea of the cost of converting back to a "normal" style clutch, and would I loose much on the 1/4 mile, or just burn through them??

Thanks!

You may wear through them a little faster but thats not a bad thing sometimes.

Yeah, you can always tell a multi plate clutch by the rattle when the clutch is depressed... SOme people love it, others hate it.

Mines not! It sounds like marbles are rattling around amplified at idle, even with no clutch.

Maybe its something else, but seems to be coming from the same area and I just got it back from the mechanic doing the thrust bearing, would think they would have investigated......then again, they are more a Mercedes specialist.

Any cruise days planned soon? Maybe some Soarer experts can have a listen and give me some ideas!

Yeah but Muzzy yours is a Single Plate isnt it? Thats why yours should be fairly quiet compared to Camerons Multiplates.

I remember my Brass button used to rattle aswell when sliping the clutch, Mainly on hill take offs like westfield carpark ramps etc.
