hey just bought my auto tt soarer a few weeks ago. something i've noticed - when i accelerate hard and it changes gears, i hear a big boom sound. a mate said its because it drops 2 cylinders when changing gears. is this true? whats the go?

As you can see Tom, not much of an answer from those south australians, just more questions and not only that, his a V8 driver
It's very normal for TT's to do that Tom, your computer retards the timing before going into gear to save ur auto, i also get that farting sound when changing from 1st to second gear

sounds a bit like dying solenoids, when mine was auto (bad old days! ) when i gunned it it used to hesitate for a second, then THUMP!! it would kickdown into first and take off like car had been rear ended. Got worse and worse until one day when i climbed into it, there was no thump, no kickdown, and no first, second or third gear! Do a diagnostic test and check fault codes, solenoids are 61 thru 64 i think, and replace them asap if they are faulty. The other hallmark of solenoid faults is a misfire between gearchanges, takes so long to change gear that 'soft shift' has to pull timing for so long that it misfires noticibly.

Hmmm so TTs DO retard the timing.
thanks for all the ideas guys. i'll give a bit more info:
All: gear changes are very smooth and instant. Have no issues driving soft to medium load. Only when i plant it do i get that booming sound.
Peter: noise sounds like its coming from the exhaust. Thads/Alan: bit of a problem- my dash does not have the diagnostics options, nor the japanese error messages. Dont know why i dont have this option? Its a different dash screen from all the photos ive seen too.
Cihan - oh yeah by the way my car puts out 1000hp. oh wait. i'm lying.
btw how do i check my solenoids if i cant do diagnostics?

Hmm,
Whgen my auto changes when say 3/4 acceleration from rest (not gunning it) the sound from the exhaust is like a small round of machine gun fire, say 5 booms in a second.
On saturdays dyno i noticed alot of others doing it, i think its pretyt much normal.
I like it though
Under soft changes or hard changes it goes straight in.

Hahahaha
Chihan yeah just had my exhaust done on thursday which is why i really notice/like it now
By the way love your quote "There are a number of mechanical devices which increase sexual arousal in women. Chief among these is the Twin Turbo JZZ30 Toyota Soarer.."

Tom; if you have any solinoids faulty in the gear box the box will change gears some times and if the correct solinoid is faulty the box will go into safety mod and will only select 1st and 3rd. so that is not ya problem you dash board in your car is a GTT dash like mine more commonly called a povety pack dash. Mate i recon thay are better any way.hehehe the engine ECU with the auto's will retard the timing between gears.so we all get the flutter between changes when we foot it hard. the only way to slow the flutter down is shift kit the box. The gear change has to happen quicker.
