I'm looking to replace my auto transmission in my V8 soarer, anyone know roughly how much I should be setting a side for one in good knick?

Brand new box a bit over $3200, hole job, around $6000-7000.

damn, they're not cheap •••?
Do you think reconditioning my own one would work out cheaper?

I had issues with the trans not gearing down properly when I planted it. Any ideas?

Reconditioning will probably be lot cheaper, but I have no idea.

Bought mine second hand for $400. $200 labour, done. This was for a JZZ30 though should be similar.

man $600!! I had a an old VL of mine cost more for the job than that... i'd be cheering!!
Hope I can find a cheap but good one.. here in sydney

Probably wouldn't go brand new too expensive.

2nd hand autos for V8's would be any were between $300-450
resealed ("O" rings etc internaly) $1500-2500
worked autos with(shift kits etc)$2500-6000
depending on the degree of work requested to be done.

Jan - I believe you got it mixed up a bit mate. He was asking for the price for the auto box, not a manual one :-)

Alex - I sold mine for about $500 and it was in very decent nick (only had about 70,000KMs run into it)
Have a look around the For Sale section of this site, and you might get lucky!
