Yep it can be done, someone from Japan done this gated shifter to their Soarer.

Two problems with the late model gated shifter from the US. Yes it will work however you wont be able to re-use the plastic surround as the handbrake curve is on the other side. Secondly and the main reason why i havent done it yet is the that gear selector pattern is on the wrong side.

As UCF20 gated shifter could be bought brand new, i expect it to be stupidly expensive (guess $2000+) otherwise you will have to look out for one going at a wreck or ebay. Best chance is looking in NZ as the car will be a heap cheaper than here and therefore more likely that there will be wrecks and parts.

Personally im waiting for someone to use a JZX100 gated shifter. Have never heard of anyone using it and interested to see how it goes. Once i know it will work ill be doing it right away on mine.
