Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone knows or has used some sort of Gearbox Oil or Additive That helps the gears change smoothly under heavey load.

At the moment im Using Redline MTL and its no good. My gear shifts are smooth when driving along normally but when you give it abit and change to 3rd gear ethier downshifting or upshifting its hard to go in 3rd and is crunching into gear...Not grinding but crunches into 3rd gear while giving it abit.

A guy at work and my mechanic Niall both suggested its worn Synchros. which is probally the case but im hoping there is some oil out there that i can try.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Cheers.

hi Shane

have you considered
www.xcelplus.com ? they claim that they are the "true" Slick 50 / Duralube , and have a section full of testimonials and research including official-looking documents from government agencies. apparently, the current Slick 50 /Duralube/etc are just reverse-engineered and ineffective versions of the original Slick50, which is sold by Xcelplus. anyway, i'm not really eager to test them out by driving on a dry engine.. but I'm not sure if it'll hurt to use some just in case? (no pun intended)

cheers

Try Redline Lightweight Shockproof. That should do the trick.

Neil i put Redline MTL in for 5,000km like you said, just to run it in and get rid off all the crap in there....Drained it the other day at Nialls and put new Redline MTL in and now its playing up.

So what can i do, i cant put Redline MTL as its not working for me. I guess i could try Redline Shockproof but theres another $110. if its guaranteed to work. id buy it today.

I had alook at that Nulon G70, i was thinking of buying it, but decided to go with the Redline LWSP...So ill find out Monday or Tuesday Afternoon if it works.

Thing that sucks is the Redline MTL has only been in my car less than 500Kms and its gonna be droped. What a waste of $110.

Fingers crossed the Redline LWSP works.

I beleive I know the problem with hard shifting in the R154 :-) And it aint the gear oil :-)

I found it out when doing my V8...

As my V8 has a change as easy as the W58 :-)

Not even -7 in the morning makes it hard..heheheheh

Are you talking about the nylon bush thingy?
Wasn't Manny able to get them when he supplied them with the shift kits a while back, or were they custom made?

shift kit in a manual think some one is a little confused, either that or I am. unless of corse you are talking about a short shift kit then it makes perfect sence

Yeah Simon would be talking about the Short Shift Kit.

Ok for anyone whos interested....

I tried the Redline LWSP and its bloody fantastic so far, at 1st i noticed how really smooth it made it...I planted it and tested to see if i get the crunch (i did, i thought waste of money) about 30 - 40kms later it feels even more smoother and i dont get the crunch. Im really happy with LWSP i recommend everyone with a R154 to try it out. 10 times better than MTL.

But ofcourse each gearbox is different and each persons driving style is different, so may not work for some.

So for Adam Barry Thanks for recommending the LWSP, cheers mate.

Fingers crossed it keeps the gear shifts smooth under heavy load.

And for anyone that wants a small amount of of, I have about 2L or so still sitting in the bottle....unused when I swapped the gearbox in my old GT4.
I don't know if it goes "off" or anything after being opened, but you're welcome to it anyway.
