had my transmission changed not long ago and now does not appear to slip and mostly appears good. However under throttle there is a real jolt between 2nd and 3rd. I can't take it back to where i had it done as they are complete assholes and broke some components in replacing. can anyone recommend somewhere in Sydney to have it checked. im hoping that it doesnt need to be replaced.

Have you check the transmission mount or engine mounts...they may be causing the 'clunk' they sound dodgy, who knows they may have sheared something off I can count the number of mechanics I trust on two fingers...ah well

Thanks Joshua. Actually i was hoping someone would say it was engine mounts. My transmission mount is all good. I also now realise that clunk was not the right word to use as this implies a noise where its really more a jolt. Interestingly if i keep the car in 2nd i can pretty much change up at any time and there is no jolt. it only happens in drive under medium-heavy throttle.

So there's no noise? If there is no 'noise' and the jolt is comeing from 'inside' the case then I would be starting to wonder about the transmission fluid they used. V8s = ONLY type IV fluid
A 'clunk' under load might indicate worn or sheared mount at the engine torque hits engine against the engine bay mounting point/worn mount. (my old falcon used to do this the trans mount was foobared so every time you stuck the boot in her...)
A jolt 'inside' the transmission I would think would be more a fluid problem. The whole case would have to be drained then. I remember Toyota (of all people!!!) wanted to put type II in my case cos thats what it said on the dipstick. I had a stand up argument with them and told them I wanted type IV so then they made me sign to say that they wouldn't be held responsible if the trans didn't function properly there after until they would do as I asked...
Time to take it to a Transmission place that you can trust I think Ben

Joshua, yeah no noise as such. but i thought the slightly rough shift could be exacerbated by poor engine mounts. i will try changing the fluid. not sure what they used. Probably sunflower oil
James, they got the gearbox from a celcior. so i dont think so (?). How would I know? Its like it takes too long to change. Theres like a curve in power then bump, we're in. As i mentioned it doesnt do it when manual shifting, even under load.
