Hi need some info on A340LE transmission.
I have searched the threads could not fined any post with a similar to my problem.
My auto box is slipping when at wide open throttle
around the 4000rpm mark and then revs out speed
dose not move like if its been shoved into neutral, if i go to half throttle its fine and under normal driving its ok too is there
something wrong some were.

I have changed elec speedo drive to cable too
as this motor/box is not in soarer etc
dose this affect the solenoids in the box

Oil im using is valvoline ATF dexron 3 as i was told this oil replaced dex2 as marked on dipstick
this oil went in the transmission before reading posts on
Soarer Central.

Cheers Jay
Any info would help as getting full throttle
will be interesting to see what this motor
can do.

im not a gbox specialist but people ask what
colour (worn trans)
certain smell (clutch packs)
harsh down shifts (solenoids, line pressure)
missing shifts staying in gear (solenoids)
does it do this after or around this revs (torque converter)

my brothers does the same and it needs a rebuild (clutch packs)

Ok colour of oil is still red

Have not had any smell from the oil

Going down gears is normal

The only time it stays in gear for long time
is from 1st to 2nd but fells normal no more than
8-10sec though(only when cold)

When i put my foot on the throttle to the floor
hard from standing still car dose go but when
it hits around 4000rpm it just revs out higher
and speed stays the same.

Also when going around 50-60kmh and floor it
it dose kick back gear and just revs out higher
and not go any were like its been shoved into neutral.

From what you said Scott sounds like converter has had it or its on it way.
Can not even get wheels to spin or chirp from a
standing start take off under hard acceleration

What price would i be looking at for converter
or can these be reconditioned.

Jason, if you have any devices connected to the ECU wiring, check all the joints. A couple of years ago some dodgy joints on mine played up, effectively removing some speed or RPM info from the ECU, so it really wasn't sure what to do with the gearbox.

That sounds like worn clutch packs to me. Under hard load and revs the clutches slip allowing the motor to free wheel.

I thought that these trans took the Toyota special fluid and not dextron?

Matt.

Yes i do have two devices one boost/fuel cut
is two diodes and trim pot got from one of the
posts and a tacho converter from 5volt to 12volt pulse so my tacho would work. Still did it with
the boost/fuel cut not installed.

Im not running the fuel ECU straight 12volt.

Ye i thought i put the wrong fluid in the box
to after reading through some of these posts
but a lot of people have told me that
Dexron3 has replaced dexron2.

With the clutch packs don't they leave bits through the oil/sum, going to pull pan
off over the weekend and take a look in
side,is there any thing i should take note of.

cheers Jay

If the box has a shift kit fitted you can run Dex 3 safely..

Otherwise you must run Toyota Type 4 Trans fluid.. Thats all i know!

Slipping when under pressure (on boost and between changes) is usually clutch packs as the gearbox can't hold the power as Matt has said.

Mine started to do this, particularly when boost hit 2500-4000 rpm and also shifting to 2nd gear on throttle.

When swapping the box over, I checked the magnets on the gearbox pan and they were covered in metal fragments. So maybe check that, then you will know if new box is on order. Use only Toyota orange sealant when re-sealing pan otherwise will always leak.

Ok ive pulled the pan off and valve body
and found not a thing the magnets are clean
bottom of the pan has slight muck on it.
Checked solenoids too all ok.

Could this just be valve body pressure
problem or just use of the wrong fluid.

Have only changed exhaust and gone front mount
cooler not even dump pipe yet.

With oil the toyota type4 is that thicker
than the dexron 3 oil, have found penrite
ATF MHP trans oil and it states that can be used
where toyota type4 fluid is used

Hi just been reading up,can O2 sensor or
the coolant sensor have any thing to do
with the problem ive got reason i ask is that
im going through a lot of fuel.

I thought that these two sensors were manly
to tell the computer how much fuel to
feed the engine.

If yours is a TT Jason then I believe they use Dextron wheras the 1UZ uses Type4.

Matt.

Hi Matt yes mine is a TT

I know this has been talked about before and i
have read through these post about locking the
converter but can not find witch wire i need
to cut and put a switch in.

Dose the computer need both speed sensors
for it to work properly.

If this dose not work ill be looking for 2nd
box. Or going reco
