Symptom: when cruising (especially down hill), disengaging the overdrive (ie pop the shift button out), sometimes no reaction at all. Wont notice anything until I put the foot on the gas. Any ideas ?

so you want it to change from OD4th to 3rd ? at what speed? mine changes down from OD4th to 3rd at about 55 - 60 when to press the button for no OD, and you can feel it. accidently did pressed the button at 90kmph not doing that again she spun to about 4500 - 5000rpm

Thanks for the reply Scott. When I wrote cruising, I meant driving. (slang) not electronic cruise control (for the benefit of Don, who obviously was having a bad day). As a moderator, you really have no idea on protocol. There was no need to show your lack of tolerance. The speed in 4th (o/d) probably over the 80 klm mark. When I have the foot on the gas, there doesn't seem to be a problem. It's only when the car has traveled some distance, say down a hill without the gas pedal depressed (hence cruise). Otherwise the auto performs well, no shudder or loud clunks etc.

It should drop down into Drive as soon as you hit the OD OFF button. And it shouldn't change back into Overdrive unless you push the button back in. Get a multimeter out and see if the ECU is getting the signal from the button. http://www.conceptual.net.au/~peewee/wiring/ Look at the UZZ31 drawings to see what is going on. The OD2 pin should earth when the button is out.

I don't think you get Don's (kiwi) sense of humour. |

Similar comment: I can understand you reacting to how you interpreted Don's jokes but he has never in my recollection abused anyone nor would. On the contrary, his posting at all on your thread was a welcoming move. IMHO he is unlikely to take offence to your reply so long as you relax and enjoy the fun around here.

Yeah, Chris may have missed the tone of the comment! - I certainly noticed it straight away, but I guess us regulars are very much used to it! ....The forum would not quite be the same without Don's humor!

Hi Chris. After I've been driving for a while and the transmittion is at running temp, I loose the O/d completely. Also when I take of from O, again when at running temp, i have to manually drop down to 2nd.It feels like the 2nd gear only half engages. My problem is solonoids. Have to replace 2 and 3 which is getting done next week, Well i'm replacing all of them. Regards Gerard

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but 2 way O/D is technically 2 gears..correct?? When I take off from 1st, I count through 5 gears although O/D 4th to 5th obviously feels different.

The extra gear that you're feeling is probably the torque converter lock up

Alex, I know it's a 4 speed auto, but it's a 2way O/D. I wasn't too sure about the 2way O/D. Saw your car again today at Towerhill Ritchies BTW. Cheers Daz, that may be it.

Darren got it right. The T/C lock jolts and feels like an extra gear change. It happens in 3rd with O/D off too, at speeds above 60kph.
