I have a 1UZFE in my 67 Hr holden is it common for these to short shift 1st gear even when held manually in 1st do they also take off in 2nd gear I replaced a dead shift solenoid last week but this is as it has been since running does the shift kit improve this or do you need a controller on the box to help it use all of 1st gear.
is it a Ecu safety thing ? would love to hear some thoughts etc .

Nick.

It should hold first gear if you have the selector in first.

They can start in 2nd if you have the selector in 2nd AND the ECT switch set to Power.

Do you have the entire ECU and all the standard wiring installed?

sorry and yes it is all standard wiring and ecu like I said before only things that are not done are second set of o2 sensors normally after standard cats , and the O/D switch so it changes itself into 4 whilst switch isn't wired yet not a bad thing atm.

How are you sending the speed signal to the ECU?

If the 1UZ and ECU is from a Soarer then the ECU expects a speed signal from the dash which is fed from the gearbox.

Matt There lies a problem I am waiting on my Electronic Autometer speedo from Summit so could this be a problem not having a speed signal atm ? It was from a 92 soarer .Btw Thanks.

It could be a problem if you are running a Soarer motor/trans and ECU. Other Lexus motor's might well be the same but I don't know.

I would suspect that the trans shift points are controlled buy the ECU. If it doesn't have a proper speed signal then I wouldn't expect it to know when to shift properly.

even when you are burying your foot through the boards it short shifts first would full throttle use a different part of the ecu ? Hey as an auto electrician I make a excellent truck driver !

If it was me before I went any further I would get a speed signal from the gearbox to the ECU. There are a number of ways of doing this.

Once you have the sorted then recheck the cars operation. I don't think it's worth troubleshooting a fault when the install isn't fully completed.

The ECU relies on knowing what speed the car is doing (amongst other things) to work out what gear to use.

Thank's guys so you reckon it's a definate to hook up the speedo and it should resolve itself, My original intention was to ask if the soarers when left in drive and throttle mashed use first gear fully. See forums are great help for people who are stuck. As soon as it arrives from Summit it will get fitted I used my Speedo and tach from my ute to get sizes for holes correct.
