Just notice a bit of oil on the garage floor tonight and notice that the oil is from the rear main oil seal.

Since I don't have a transmission hoist/jack does anyone know where I can get the seals changed in Sydney? What is the cost of parts and labour?

Thanks.

The parts are cheap, just a couple of dollars, the labour isn't quite so cheap. Get the front gearbox seal replaced while you are at it.

Rear main engine seal is about $35, and the gearbox around $30. Labour to replace both will be around $700.

Are you sure it is coming from the rear main seal? It is hidden under the bellhousing so you have no way of checking if it is that. If you have a leak elsewhere the oil will pool at the lowest part of the block, that being at the bottom where the bellhousing joins the block.

And check your PCV valve isn't blocked, as that will pressurise the sump and cause oil leaks from the crank seals.

I will recheck this again, there are only 2 drops of oil on the garage floor which SEEMS like its from the bellhousing.

Hmmm $700.00, maybe I'll invest in a proper tranny jack.

The PCV valves are working fine, I've just recheck them this morning.

I recently had the same symptoms with my V8.
It turned out to be the steel sump extension gasket.
Get a look under there and you will see what I mean, the main sump is Aluminum and it has a lower part bolted on with the drain plug, anyhow, the gasket had a leak, easy fix compared to rear main seal.
