Hey guys (n galls) I have sorted out the aircon problem at last, I bought a dryer, and 2 valves and converted to the new gas and bingo, ice cold air!
But i really need help with my ECT and O/D - they don’t work! I have a car that is permanently in power mode and I would love to just cruise now and then.
After 1 mile from cold the ECT warning starts flashing and stays on until I restart the engine then 1 mile and off it goes again, the power switch does nothing and the O/D is also inactive.
I cannot do the diagnostics recommended by other threads because I need the O/D switch to be working first, I have spent all day on this forum looking for answers – no luck, please chaps, I am at the end of me tether!!!

Nye, have a similar problem with the O/D either not working properly or ECT flashing.

My local auto mechanic managed to put a probe on and the solenoid has died. Replacing tomorrow.

The symptom originally was O/D would not dis-engage . Never a problem in getting O/D on, was when I wanted to slow down using the gears that it would take for ever to come on, and even then it was too sporadic. It seems the solenoid was on its way out.

Hope that helps.

Thank you for your information Chris, I hope it works for you. My problem is that neither the switches are responding, it could just be a fuse somewhere but I have searched the forum and cannot find any information to tell me what/where the fuse might be!
I have checked the wires to the o/d button and they are dead.
I have spent 4hrs on it this morning and it seems I am still at square one - very frustrating!

The wires at the OD button will be dead, as the globe is in the circuit before them.

Are you sure the globe isn't blown?
One wire to the globe should have +12v when ever the key is ON. Pull the dash out and verify that.
The OD OFF button overrides the ECU's control over the globe, so regardless of the ECU the light should be on with the button out and the key ON.
