Peter, sometimes in the wet i'll take off at the lights at around half throttle, not to spin the wheels but to get a semi quick take off. When I do so, if the wheels spin a little I also get clunking noises. But, if I plant my foot in the wet I get no clunking noises, just wheel spin. Could it be clunking because the wheels are semi-spinning and trying to grip? All of this is done with TRC off. Does it sound diff related to you or maybe tranny? Could the tranny mounts have anything to do with it? Cheers.

Diff plug? Do you have any pics or diagrams? Will pulling the plug out release oil? Just wanna make sure i'm prepared.
What do you mean "this is where problems really show up"? Should it be clunking whilst doing it's job? Or does the clunking mean there is a problem? I'm not sure if it's a clunk i'm hearing or a knock...if there's a difference.

Mate the bung is at the bottom of the diff at the back, there is a magnet attached to it, this bung also holds the diff oil in. If the diff is broken you will have chunks of metal attached to the magnet, not just the usual metallic fluff.
