Ok so I wanna put a W58 into the dirty 30 and I have a few questions, and before anyone says it YES I know the W58 is not as good as R154 but I'v always been a bit of a softy on gboxes so I'm unconcerned (I didn't even break I searched and there is a bit of info on the conversion but it is all a few years old and I'm lookin for info that's a little more up to date.
What does a W58 go for these days?
Who could do this conversion for me in Perth?
Any idea what sorta cash I'd be paying for a drive in-drive out deal?
Any recommendations of good jap wreckers that could hook me up with the parts required?

Anywhere between $1200 - $1500 for the complete 2jz w58 with flywheel and clutch. You will still need tailshaft $200, pedals $400 , spigot bearing $10, Manual computer can be added after. Depending on the kit if it has the speedo sender.... slave cylinder....clutch lines.. Assumes clutch is decent and flywheel machining T $50.
Some of these parts are not that dear, just hard to find.
A day for a decent mechanic should pull it up. rates for a mech $80-$100 an hour.

do not go w58,if you cant do it properly dont do it at all,you will regret it,as an indication people are now using w58's behind there 4ag's mostly 20v's so they dont keep smashing the t50 boxes.....but they are even breaking the w58,they are ok but id never use one behind an engine with some decent torque like the 1j

w58 is a good box but they dont tend to handle fast rough shifting and nasty clutch setups. Ive already been down the w series route and had to spend the monet again to get a r154. you will not regret buying a r154 but you may regret a w series. also there are alot of w series boxes that have done high ks so be careful if you do buy one. I got a good one but decided to sell before I smashed it. but all that said my mate runs a w58 behind a 400hp+ 2j but he is very nice to it- seems to be ok so far "touch wood"

Historically, posts on W58 vs R154 suggest that a W58 will handle 200 rwkw with the chief variable being how much torque you push into the gearbox, which is affected by how you use the throttle. Abuse tends to kill the clutch before the gearbox, consistent with Daniel's comment, but given an adequate clutch it is possible to kill the gearbox through persistent aggression from a torquey engine.
You appear to have 220 rwkw, Luke, so an R154 may be a better choice especially if you intend to upgrade power further. The W58 is what you might call a cruising gearbox, very slick for road driving rather than suited to racing or dragging.
