Hey guys,
Went to pull out the EMV & failed at the first step!
The red button depresses OK, but I can't get the gear column to budge. Am I missing something really simple here or is this a bigger issue?

Did you press the button on top of the gear level as well?

Unfortunately, yes. I put a fair bit of pressure on both buttons, but it doesn't give at all. I was expecting it to move as easily as when the engine is on.

it wants to make sure you are not gonna roll away if it hands over control to you...neutral & no brake means bye bye on a hill.

Ahh. So are you saying the sequence is to have the ignition on, depress brake, move gear lever into neutral, press red button & turn off ignition?
Or, have ignition on, depress brake, turn off ignition & move gear lever to neutral using red button?

that would be my guess.... perhaps the plastic bit that your red button pushes down on is broken.

The red button pushes a plastic Tag which is mounted to a very weak piece of tin, they can bend out of shape very easily and then thats all it will be I reckon.

i didn't think you'd be able to take the console trim off with out having the gear lever in neatural anyway.

how would you be able to pull down the bit of plastic on its base to access the screw that holds it on?

is there any reason why you cant turn the ignition on to move the gear lever?

Thats all you do, move it to neutral with the ignition on, remove 2 screws, remove shifter, remove plastic surround. Make sure red button is pressing lever. :-)

Yeah, that's the go! Fix that first & then I'll be able to mess with the electrics.
Cheers.
