Found an oil leak in my R154. Looks like it's coming from the drain plug. Just want to confirm it's the drain without removing it and dropping the oil.

Upload

This is looking up at the box from the drivers side. Is this the drain plug?

If so where's the fill plug? I've had a pretty good look but can't see it. I want to change the oil coz I don't know how much I've lost. Did a bit of a search and came up with 3.5L of Redline LWSP, is this correct oil to use? And where's the best place to get it?

Cheers.

Thanks Andrew.
Is it at the back of the box, same side?

Anyone know which to use - Redline LWSP or MLT(?) ?

Both have been used with success. I prefer mlt .
At the rear of the box, near the shifter. ( i had to find a pic to check).

Great thanks Andrew.

Finally, what's the best (easiest) way to get the oil into the box. I'll be doing this at home on car stands and don't have an oil pump to pump it in with.

Buy a thomb thumb pump. I think thats what it was called. A small pump that is on a litre bottle with a long clear hose running from it. $20
Unscrew the lid that the pump is on, put that pump lid onto the redline bottle, insert hose end into filling hole of gearbox, and pump until she overflows out the filling hole, replace bung, clean up overflow.
Its slow, but foolproof.

Found it on the Autobarn online catalogue.

Burson Auto Spares used to sell it for like $115 or so for the 4ltr bottle.

It actually says it will last alot longer than 50,000kms but id be changing it every 50,000kms.

I used to use it in my old R154 gearbox and it made the gear shifting alot smoother compared to what it was.

Yeah, I'd done a couple of searches and saw it was around the $120 mark about a year ago.
But a 50% increase in price? Those
B@stards!

But yeah, worth doing, worth doing right.

Anyone know how much oil the box holds?
I put in as much as I could pump from the bottle but it didn't overflow. 1 us gallon = 3.8l.
Still, more than came out! There was a bit over three litres in it. Still pretty clean and no metal bits.
How much more do I need?

i think it holds 3.3L.
Try putting the remainder of the large redline bottle into a smaller container to allow the tom thumb to get to it.

There was less than 200mL left. I measured it.
So there's over 3.5L in there.

If the car is level when you are filling it, keep going till it overflows back out the filling hole. I recall not having much left when i did it as well.
