well i thrashed my car a bit on the weekend, high speed drags and stuff, almost all from rolling start (only stalled for 2/3 secs when standing) and then my box started slipping into 2nd gear (revving out) i gathered was really hot or something. anyway got home after 1 hour of freeway ultra cruising and found my transmission cooler to be ULTRA HOT as i couldn't touch it.
i left it till the morning and yes found the fluid to be cooked as black oil i changed the fluid, pretty good as in pulled the cooler pipes and the gearbox and flushed it when putting in some new stuff. went all good but then found it to still get hot even still, and now its gone an off colour, that was about 2 weeks ago and now its slipping into 2nd gear again. 3rd is ok, haven't actually done any high speed 4th gear so unsure yet.
what would cause this? im planning on changing solenoids off my spare soarer but i couldn't find any info in regards to the heat issue as in ULTRA HOT and pretty damn hot just driving around a few blocks driving normally.

Shane when your 91 tt was new it would take a bit of stick , but after 18 years they are bound to have worn parts ,and when pushed they play up. Hope it all works out OK.

yeah diagnostics turn out fine however for the first few corners the gearbox is pretty drivable, only easily slips when warming up. gonna try the solenoids next week

If its a solenoid it will show up on a diagnostic test. It's a 5 minute job if you follow the directions in the tutorial. Also if the Oil is buggered from too many over heatings it could also contribute to the problem.

Someone posted this for me a last december and I am seriously challenged with some of this stuff if I can follow it then anyone can. Diagnostic Test: Do Diagnostics Test on ECT and if Code 63 displays then the Soleniod No 2 is faulty.
Connect a paper clip through E1 & Te1 on the Diagnostic Connector under the hood E1 & Te1 ( it's a small round box in plain sight) Turn key to Ign ON
Klingon Message in CLOCK display
Press Scroll Button
Will show ECU
Press Scroll Button
Will show ECT NG
Wait for numbers to show. Then go to the tutorial and look up the numbers

having this same problem, don't know what to do. My mechanic says my aggressive style of driving requires a gearbox but i don't know where to find one let alone afford it
