hey guys
would like to know what happens when a torque converter is failing
i have just replaced my auto in my car because it would stay in 1st for ages, i would have to back of the throttle and then it would not really go into 2nd but straight into 3rd.
if going through the gears manually 2nd gear would free rev. so i decided that the clutch pack for 2nd was dead.
i bought a auto of a guy how was stripping a car, he told me that it had 66,000 on the clock, car was being stripped as it was written off.
when i went to pick up the auto he asked if he could keep the torque converter of the auto to build up a stall for his other car.
when i put my new auto in i used my old torque converter, i drained nearly all the fluid out of the auto and converter and filled up with dex 3
it has been about 2 months since then and it has started having the same symptoms like staying in first and not really going into 2, it also has a harsh down shift when slowing down going back into first, which was there when auto was put in.
i have hardly driven the car with the new auto and not even hard at all
o/d light is not flashing and checked for any codes but there is none.
any help would be good as i dont really want to get another auto

no i don't think i had any air locks as i was driving around fine for 2 months
drain fluid from pan then flipped over and more ran out from output shaft, had torque converter removed and tried to drain out as much as possibal, put a new filter in when putting pan back on. took at least 10L of dex 3
do you need to remove the pan to check solenoids properly or does anyone know wat pins i can use to check at plug.

Torque converters are pretty foolproof - they do fail but its usually without warning and cataclysmic - mind you only one I've ever seen fail was an Austin Princess, which is pretty low-tech, but the theory remains the same - the car just stopped moving and the engine was revving up to the stall speed - I think the output turbine had ceased up.
