How much will it cost to put in a manual conversion in my UZ31? Parts and labour included in Melbourne? Anyone? I've gone through the threads and I think its around $5700 for full conversion? I love my V8 Soarer but I wish it came out with manual. Anyone?

Cheers

i just added it up in my head and it cost me $2500 for everything but i made a lot of stuff and did everything myself. it wasnt a quik process doing it on the cheap but well worth it for me. my hearts still pumping from driving it for the first time as a manual. im stoked its finished.

Dude that sounds so awesome! I'm really game to do it but I'm not mechanic and much rather done pro. Just dont know how much exactly parts and labour. Show a pic of the inside of your car Jamie. Would love to check it :-)

as for parts, conversion kits, without pedals ecu and dash range between 1500-2500. rushimports used to have a r154 bellhousing but i donno if they still do...i think i might wait for the t56 6 speed conversion, as the t56 boxes are ment to be cheaper..

T56 a Holden transmission? I probably would stick with the W58.

Does anyone know with the conversion I would still have the "TRC, High & Low, TEMS" switches usuable? :S I totally forgot about this :-(

t56 is not a holden tranny.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borg-Warner_T-56_transmission

its a pretty good tranny seeing the list of cars its been used in. trc has nothing to do with the tranny, except maybe the speed signal or something..but im sure its retained. high low and tems is the airbag suspension, which is not related to the tranny. they should all work

The switches are best moved into the ashtray area, under the lid.

im still using the original ecu and i just hid the height controller switches as im running a aftermarket controller. everything including cruise control still works and no extra lights on my dash too.

im thinking of doing a kit wich includes adaptor plate, flywheel and ceramic cushion button HD clutch plus tilton slave cylinder and braided lines. the rest you would get from a manual soarer and everthing would bolt up.
it would cost $2000 for the kit. but as i said every thing would bolt in if you used soarer r154, pedals, tailshaft, clutch master, gearstick and rear crossmember.

Stock ecu is fine, it runs exactly the same apart from the ECT error on the dash.

And you only have to cut one wire for that error to go away.

I would put away about $5,000 to do a nice conversion professionally.

I plan to go for the W58

AFAIK there is a a single wire that transmits error codes from ECU to dash. If the connection is cut, the dash shows the time and temperature etc.

Same concept on JZZ30's when we use shift boxes, pop in a standalone or powerFC and the ECT error code disappears from the dash.

ECU diagrams of the 3 plug 91-93 model 1UZ ECU call this wire by name so its easy to find. All toyota's have it, so its just a matter of isolating and cutting.

I'll take a look for you tomorrow. I didn't realise it wasn't understood. Hopefully i'm not wrong.

Thanks Cihan, i have a 94 uzz31 with a w58, i think the 94's have a ...lets say unique wiring harness, so hopefully the wire will be able to be identified and Cut, without causing other issues.

I believe this is the wire for the 3 plug. 91 - 93

Its the engine check light wire, goes straight to the dash. I presume it is the same wire as the 1JZ/2JZ which throws the same errors.

4 plug, i'll try find a diagram.

If thats the correct wire, i suggest you put a switch there so diagnostics can still be done easily.

Thanks Cihan for looking into it.

Ken, i bought the car and it was already done.
one of the reasons i bought it.
Had been planning to do it at some stage and found this car already converted.

Neil From Rush did the conversion , I think it was about $5700 done , and done by a professional.

I had to change the rego over from NSW to QLD and the inspector was very impressed, and commented that it was very very well done and would be hard to pick as non-factory.

The only thing is the ECT error on the dash every time you start the car, but you get used to it , and it's really no big deal.

I have an auto and a manual, and the manual makes the car so much more alive and fun to drive, in busy traffic you appreciate the auto, but the manual puts a smile on your face everytime you drive it.

yes , actually my wife owns the car and I am allowed to occasionally clean it and drive it on the weekend when she is in a charitable mood.

I was seriously considering doing it to her previous Soarer and stumbled upons Daves's for Sale, and yes I grabbed it.

The Manual makes you work harder in the car but I think it does make the car more lively and fun to drive.
W58 has a nice shift, compared to R154 and possibly t56 , they will handle more power , but 200rwkw is all you will need on the road and the w58 will handle that, currently has around 145rwkw and it's fine. My wife thinks it has enough power and I tend to agree, until it becomes mine, then i may possibly chase more.

Sorry Ken I don't think it be for sale ever , after she is done with it , it will become my toy.
You are obviously aware of the quality of this car and it's features, so it will stay in the family.

Cheers.
