hi everyone.

i'm needing to replace the metal drive gear inside the extension housing as it keeps wearing away my plastic cogs.

my question is how do i take it off and what do i need.

the plate on the gear box says i have a 30 - 40LE

as far as i can i tell i need to drop the drive shaft, disconnect the couple of sensors on the side. drop the rear mount (am i ok to support the gear box via a jack on the drain pan?)

and then undo the 4 bolts holding it on. is that pretty much how it goes? also there is a seal in there, am i going to have to replace that seal when i take it off, or can i just use some gasket sealer instead?

if anyone has a link to a "how to" would be good as well.

The jack will hold the pan, but best to spread the load a bit on the sump pan (small piece of timber or somthing, so you dont point load it too much)

There is at least 6 bolts holding it on.

There is an outer seal and a mating seal, the outer seal has the tailshaft running into it (round rubber, just replace or leave it if its good.) and the mating seal goes between the output housing and the box, you can use gasket goo in there (I have and no problems)

I am having a similar issue, double check that there is two shims installed on the shaft to space that sensor.

You may need to take the back nut off?? 24mm, or 32mm can't remember, undo the sensors undo the six bolts and you are happening.

Are you having any high idling issues????

thanks for the reply rob

no high idling issues, yeah it all seemed pretty straight forward just thought i'd double check before going at it hammer and tongs.

its just that this is the 2nd or 3rd plastic cog i've gone through and thought i better get around to putting in the new metal thing that drives the plastic one.

Don't forget those bloody spacers on that shaft if you leave them out the metal thing moves backwards and tears the plastic cog up..
